Nina Dobrev Thankful She Didn't Marry Ian Somerhalder: The Vampire Diaries Star's Career Takes Off

The fangs are out with new rumors that Nina Dobrev is thankful she didn’t marry former “Vampire Diaries” co-star and ex-boyfriend Ian Somerhalder.

Nina Dobrev and Ian Somerhalder split in 2013 after two years of dating while shooting the hit CW show. After the breakup the two appeared amicable, even joking about their break-up onstage as they accepted the “Best Chemistry” People’s Choice Award in 2014. Nina Dobrev has also stated that her decision to leave The Vampire Diaries in the sixth season was unrelated to her failed romance with Ian Somerhalder.

However, the past few months have been plagued with rumors that Dobrev is reneging on her promise to return to the hit show, infuriating Somerhalder and disappointing fans. The likely cause of her broken promise? Ian Somerhalder’s April 2015 wedding to Nikki Reed, although not because the starlet is still pining over her lost love.

It is rumored that Nina Dobrev is patting herself on the back for escaping the possibility of a doomed marriage to an actor whose career is in decline. Recently, the Nina Dobrev’s career has been on the rise with the new release of “xXx: The Return of Zander Cage” hitting theaters soon, as well as a 1990’s horror movie “Flatliners” that she is filming along with “Crash Pad” being in post-production. Somerhalder’s claim to fame, “Vampire Diaries” is wrapping up after this season and there are no reports of him having any other shows in the works.

To a woman on the rise like Nina Dobrev, having a partner with equal or greater star power is a must in Hollywood and Ian Somerhalder simply doesn’t make the cut. Now that she is cozying up to big name stars like Vin Diesel, her co-star in “xXx: The Return of Zander Cage,” the starlet will no doubt start assembling an entourage of A-list hotties to choose from.

Nina Dobrev isn’t returning to “Vampire Diaries” because she doesn’t need to: she has enough movies in the works to keep her busy until the end of vampire eternity. And she certainly doesn’t need Ian Somerhalder, whose flailing career would just drag her down. Sorry Damon, looks like Katherine wasn’t the only one who saw you as a weak choice for a lifelong mate.

Do you agree that Nina Dobrev is better off without Ian Somerhalder? Is his career over after the final season of “Vampire Diaries” wraps? Is Nikki Reed doomed to have her career sucked dry because of Ian’s lack of casting? Tell us what you think!
