Doug turned himself for questioning on tonight’s episode of “The Family”. Apparently he thought he could simply come in and clear his name of any wrongdoing because he had a trump card which was Ben not being as reliable as everyone thought, but Ben wasn’t that good of an actor. He could only fool people that were ready to be fooled. And this time Nina knew she had her man so she had paid closer attention when Ben came in for a line-up that would surprise everyone.

Ben and his supposed parents had eventually been brought to the station to identify his kidnapper. However, there was one problem with the lineup. Ben actually wasn’t in the position to point a single finger at anyone much less Doug because that would make Doug reveal who he really was. And how he took over Adam’s life. So when Ben saw the men all lined up and even went through the motions of making them all say something familiar to him which was what Doug used to tell him, he recognized Doug instantly yet he had to lie about it. Else he would have lost everything he has with the Warrens.

So Ben had claimed that he didn’t see his kidnapper there though Nina had saw something happened during the lineup that simply could not be explained. She had seen Ben’s reaction to Doug and how he had paused on him. Almost as if he wanted to say that it had been Doug that hurt him for all those years, but he couldn’t. And that made her think. If she was right about Adam not being Adam then he would have a reason to lie.

Only she never got as far as to accuse him of lying. Claire had put a stop to it. She said her son had already said that man (Doug) wasn’t the guy so she demanded that they move on. To take a better look at rest of the men in the lineup. And so Nina never got the chance to grill Ben.

Though Nina was still suspicions. She had felt something was off with Doug and Hank Asher had literally given her everything she needed to suspect Doug. So looking further into Doug’s background had helped provide her with some answers. She found out that Doug’s parents split up when he was young and that his mother then had a string of boyfriends that usually didn’t stick around for long. But that there had been one boyfriend in particular that had taken special interest in Doug when he was nine.

Mark had been the only one to show up at all of Doug’s games and events. And to the blind eye it would have looked as if he had merely taken an interest in Doug as pseudo-stepfather, however as Nina pointed out to Doug, that sounded lot like conditioning. So that Doug would think it was a mistake or that maybe Mark didn’t mean to hurt him when the older man began to cross the line. And so Nina later tried to follow Doug following his release. Yet he managed to shake her off by creating a diversion.

So Doug was able to return home, but he had a surprise waiting for him. Jane had apparently tried to help Agent Clements get out of his chains and there were making progress when suddenly she had to stop. She had agreed to cut off his thumbs however the blood got to her. And she was going back and forth on whether to help him with the second hand when Doug came back.

And Doug saw all the blood in the kitchen. However, Jane managed to divert him by telling him she had the baby. So that did stop Doug from taking out his anger at her though it left her open to manipulation. Jane had been so willing to make amends that she allowed Doug to convince her that he didn’t want to hurt Clements and that they could be happy again if Clements made people stop looking for him.

But it never dawned on Jane that maybe Doug was lying to protect his own skin. So she went on to do as he asked and tried to talk Clements into helping them.

However, across town, Claire was finally put the pieces together about Doug and Ben and the fallout nearly broke her. Claire had gone over to Hank’s place to ask him why he had been so sure and he had told her about all the times Doug would watch Adam. And that he knew how easy it was to do so because he used to watch Adam too. So it had been Hank’s admission that convinced Claire that Doug had taken her son, but then she had to ask herself why would Ben lie to her.

Ben has a tell. So Claire had known Ben had lied about the lineup though she hadn’t truly understood why Ben wouldn’t even say anything to either her or Willa. That is until Willa spoke up. And so it had hurt her to find out that she had been secretly harboring her son’s killer yet it had put her in such a state that she didn’t even come down when she won the governor seat because she didn’t feel like faking a smile.

And yet the one person that never had a problem with faking anything – Bridey – was putting the finishing touches on her story when she found Ben’s real mother.

THE END!
