Australian Julian Paul Assange, 39, the founder of Wikileaks was arrested today in London. Assange’s attorney made the arrangement for his surrender with British police so he could be questioned on suspicion of sex crimes. His attorney says Assange is keen to clear his name and claim this is all a political stunt.
Radaronline reports – He was wanted on suspicion of rape, sexual molestation and unlawful coercion in Sweden, and the case could lead to his extradition back there. The allegations leveled against him involve two women he met in Sweden over the summer. Assange is accused of rape and sexual molestation in one case and of sexual molestation and unlawful coercion in another. Assange flatly denies the allegations, which his attorneys claim comes from a “dispute over consensual, but unprotected sex.”
Assange has been in hiding since WikiLeaks starting publishing hundreds of U.S. top-secret diplomatic cables online last month. It is being claimed the leaks are jeopardizing U.S. national & international security and Wikileaks has seen their bank accounts, being closed and websites being attacked. At this point the only way to stop Wikileaks would be to close down the entire World Wide Web which is virtually impossible.
