Britney Spears Continues To Hide Under Conservatorship

Brand Sense is suing Britney Spears for $10 million they claim that they are owed by the pop star. The company wants Britney’s medical records entered into the proceedings but Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Reva Goetz has ruled against them.

Just because Britney is a public figure doesn’t mean the public gets to examine Britney Spears’ medical history says the judge. Britney’s records are protected by privacy statutes which are invoked due to the fact that the unstable singer is still under conservatorship.

Brand Sense sued Britney in March for $10 million, claiming her legal team went behind its back and cheated them out of a 35 percent cut of the royalties from Britney’s Elizabeth Arden fragrance deal.

Since Britney remains under a conservatorship run by father Jamie Spears and her legal team – who have control over her money and business affairs, a separate judge decided last month that the brand-marketing firm could not depose Spears because she’s not competent to testify on her own behalf.

What a crock – Britney is competent to travel the world performing in front of thousands of fans but can’t testify? This is just plain dishonest nonsense.

Brand Sense’s lawyers had hoped to show how ridiculous this is – the legal ruling of Brtiney’s supposed incompetence – but the judge disagreed. Conservatorship attorney Andrew Wallet successfully argued that Brand Sense was not entitled to the medical records because they did not demonstrate any interest in the personal welfare of Ms. Spears other than their “selfish” interest in obtaining her deposition.

Her Honor agreed. Goetz said that Brand Sense was seeking access to the records not out of interest for Spears welfare but only for reasons that were “adverse for Ms. Spears.” The judge also looked visibly angry, saying she knew Brand Sense said “the conservatorship was a sham,” an assertion not supported by facts.

The conservatorship might have been justified at one point but now it simply serves to protect Britney and her estate from proper behavior. Its easy for her legal team to get a bunch of well-paid doctors to say whatever they want them to.  Since Britney is obviously well enough to tour she is well enough to face the music… LOL.
