Footloose Gets A Remake – Will It Be As Good As The Original?

I’ll be the first to admit I’m not always stoked for remakes of old cult classics. There has been a huge overdose of this happening as of late. Think Total Recall, The Karate Kid, Arthur, Fame – the list goes on. Sometimes it works, but most often it doesn’t.

So, the question is – will the new version of Footloose please fans, old and new? This is a tough one. As my best bud admitted, “nobody can top Kevin Bacon!” Is this true, or will Kenny Wormald (Center Stage: Turn It Up) who plays bad boy Ren, have our hearts melting? Dancing With The Stars’ Julianne Hough plays Ariel, daughter of the overbearing preacher, played by Dennis Quaid. Like the original 1984 version, newcomer Ren challenges the town’s anti-dancing law – and of course there’s a little romance mixed in between Ren and Ariel.

I was happy to see in the trailer that the movie has stayed true to that of its predecessor. Nothing irks me more when a so-called ‘remake’ is made, yet is completely different than the original (please refer to my Teen Wolf article). At least with Footloose, they’ve kept in the warehouse dance scene – which appears to incorporate a lot more new ever-evolving dance and choreography moves.

Check out the trailer below, and tell me what you think!
