Life Imitating Art, H&M Channels The Anti-heroine From The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo

Life Imitating Art, H&M Channels The Anti-heroine From The Girl with the Dragon TattooWhat’s being billed by SONY Pictures as the ‘Feel Bad Movie of Christmas’ might just be the feel good wardrobe fix for fashionistas world wide this holiday season.

The highly anticipated first movie installment from the international best selling book trilogy, The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo – starring Daniel Craig, Rooney Mara, Stellan Skarsgard, Robin Wright, Christopher Plummer and Joely Richardson – premieres December 21 and Swedish mega retailer H&M is giving movie goers a chance to dress like the lead character, Lisbeth Salander.

Known for their high-profile collaborations from Jimmy Choo to Versace, H&M has teamed up with Dragon Tattoo costume designer, Trish Summerville, to perfect some of the looks from the big screen. At first glance, Lisbeth Salander played by the gorgeous and talented Rooney Mara, is anything but a fashion plate and seems much more comfortable in a style category all of her own. From her trademark earrings to her ripped T’s, cozy hoodies, broken in shoes and biker jackets, in varying shades of grey, black and blood red, H&M is launching 30 pieces as part of the latest collection on December 14.

Summerville says, “Salander’s look is very real and very lived in, with pieces that her character has worn for a long time, like her jackets that act as her armor to shield her from the world. I wanted the collection to have the essence and strength of Salander, with a fashion edge, and I’m pleased with the result! My goal is for women to find pieces in it that they love and then mix them with their own wardrobe to create their own personal style.”

If you’re in the New York area, stop by the Dragon Tattoo pop-up shop in the Meatpacking District (72 Gansevoort (between Washington and Greenwich streets) from Wednesday, December 14 – Friday, December 16 where more than just Lisbeth’s fashion is getting a nod. According to Racked NY, the store will be part retail space and part cyber café complete with “computer hacking activations.”

I for one will be at the theatre on December 21 but whether or not I’ll be channeling my inner rebel in Lisbeth garb is yet to be determined.

By the looks of things, her apartment could use a little updating – perhaps fellow Swedish super chain, IKEA should get involved. A few Billy bookshelves would spruce that place up nice!
