American Idol returns tonight for the first of three parts this week. Tonight the Top 12 men will perform, tomorrow the top 12 women will perform and on Thursday it will be the results show. Stand by as we live blog the show with all the up-to-the-minute results. Tonight the man will perform and the polls will open directly after. There is a surprise tonight instead of 12 men there are actually 13 men. The judges will bring back one of the ejected guys – Jermaine Jones, Johnny Keyser, Richie Law, and David Leathers to the competition tonight.
The 12 men performing tonight are: Eben Franckewitz; Reed Grimm; Heejun Han; Deandre Brackensick; Aaron Marcellus Sanders; Adam Brock; Creighton Fraker; Phillip Phillips; Joshua Ledet; Jeremy Rosado; Colton Dixon and Chase Likens. Who are you rooting for? Do you have any favorites yet?
The theme for this week’s performance is Producers Choice. The contestants got to choose their own song list – but the producers got to choose which song they sing. Idol pad has posted some spoilers of which songs a few of the contestants will be singing tonight.
Adam Brock – “Think” by Aretha Franklin – Creighton Fraker – “True Colors” by Cyndi Lauper – Eben Christian Franckewitz – “Set Fire To The Rain” by Adele – Jeremy Rosado – “Gravity” by John Mayer or Sara Bareilles – Reed Grimm – “Moves Like Jagger” by Maroon 5 & Christina Aguilera. RECAP: After weeks of compelling auditions, we are finally ready for the big time. Tonight the guys take the stage, tomorrow it is the girls. The judges are going to bring in one more guy, but that won’t revealed until later.
Even Nigel Lythgoe is excited about tonight, he tweeted, “We’ve cleared the studio so that we keep the surprise of who the judges are bringing back He has not been able to rehearse with the band yet” Poor guy!
Tonight, the guys get to choose which song they want to sing.
Reed Grimm from Wisconsin did a slow jazzy version of “Moves Like Jagger” by Maroon 5 and Christina Aguilera. He was very good, I love his personality and look forward to seeing something edgier from him.
Randy “I was glad that it was someone like Reed that picked such a bold choice, a very musical guy, nice choice”. Jennifer “I thought he was jazzy, an amazing voice, good start”. Steven “I loved it all, beautiful”.
Adam Brock from Pittsburgh who has a degree as a chef came on stage like a firecracker singing Aretgha Franklin’s “Think”. He was good, but not my favorite.
Steven “I thought he set the bar right out of the box, it was brilliant”. Jennifer “loved the big finish, everyone is going to need those big moments, he delivered”. Randy “loved it, job well done, really nice”.
Deandre Brackensick with incredible hair singing Earth Wind and Fire’s “Reasons”. He blew my mind, awesome!
Steven “I told you that was going to happen if you kept singing like that, beautiful”. Jennifer “I was praying that you came back and you did, amazing”. Randy “You are ready to go now, you got it all, loving you”.
Colton Dixon looked absolutely fabulous, he is the guy who really didn’t want to apply this year, having been turned down in a previous season, but his sister did and she got eliminated, he sings Decode’s “Paramore”. One of my favorite’s so far, I loved he got away from the piano.
Randy “I am so happy that you came back, I didn’t know you could perform like that, I’m lovin’t it”. Jennifer “when I see you near the piano, I love it, you are a relevant artist, you can deliver it through your heart and your voice”. Steven “You didn’t get a chance last year to show your talent, until now. You are a relevant artist, keep it up”.
Jeremy Rosado, aka Jerr-Bear singing John Mayer’s “Gravity”. I know the judges are going to like him, but I thought he was boring.
Steven “that was beautiful, you couldn’t pick a better song, for your big heart alone you should be the American Idol”. Jennifer “some people are just blessed from God when they open their mouth and you are one of those people, you have such a beautiful voice”. Randy “America needs Jeremy, I was so pressed with the tender moments and the big moments, crazy”.
Aaron Marcellus teaches voice lessons and tonight is going to use his to the fullest when he sings The Jackson Five’s “Never Can Say Goodbye”. I loved the way he moved around the stage and what an awesome voice.
The first standing ovation of the night by the judges. Randy “no look, that is how you sing some vocals, you are an old school veteran”. Jennifer “the boy can sing, I always believed in you, you can sing anything”. Steven “you were the whole package, you raised the bar tonight and you have to beat it next time”.
Chase Likens, country crooner from West Virginia who loves to whistle, he sings Hunter Hays “Storm Warning”. Damn, I love country music, but I didn’t love Chase.
Steven “welcome to American Idol cowboy, you have a Brendon Fraser kind of Mummy look”. Jennifer “you sounded great, you’ve grown so much and I look forward to where you will go”. Randy “you got range, your good looking like me and Steven, that was great”.
Creighton Fraker, a unique street performer from New York singing Cindi Lauper’s “True Colors”. This guys has a lot of soul when he sings, awesome.
Jennifer “I think America has their work cut out for them, that was beautiful, with a voice like that I don’t want you to go home, you showed all the dynamics in your voice”. Steven “that was stupendous, it was over the top, you did real good today”. Randy “dude, you can definitely sing, you got the voice”.
Phillip Phillips, a pawn shop worker with a quirky personality sings Phil Collins’ “In The Air Tonight”. Wow, I think this guy just might be in the top 4!
Jennifer “there is no doubt that you are one of the most special talents”. Steven “you have a crazy kind of voice, you made it beautiful, you did a really good job”. Randy “I’m your biggest fan but I don’t know if I was crazy about the remix of that melody, but I love it, I’m a huge fan”.
Eben Franckewitz, 15 year old cutie that reminds me of an up and coming Justin Bieber, singing Adele’s “Set Fire To The Rain”. Bad song choice, it was way too old for him.
Randy “you are so mad young, cool and collective, it wasn’t all perfect but in the end you brought it home”. Jennifer “you impressed me, you were a little unsure, but in the end you really held on”. Steven “you have a really true voice for your age, just your melody is a little pitchy, all in all it was really good”.
Heejun Han, a special needs worker that had it in for one certain cowboy during the auditions singing “Angels”. Not the best song choice for him, hope to see better next week.
Jennifer “for me you have a voice is smooth as silk and I’m not sure if that song showed your voice, but there is no denying that you can blow”. Steven “Heejun, you sure can sing, but I’m not sure this was the right song”. Randy “you are a mad talented guy but I agree, not the best song choice”.
Joshua Ledet, who they’ve nicknamed “Mantashia” singing Jennifer Hudson’s “You Pulled Me Through”. This guy is so uber talented, it’s almost ridiculous.
Randy “the doors of the church are wide open, this is what singing is all about, I love great voices and you are definitely one of them. Jennifer “I don’t even know what to say, you are so insanely talented, you can be any kind of singer”. Steven “you are the voice the world has been waiting to hear, that’s what it’s all about, a journey with a voice”.
Who did the judges decide to bring back for an unprecedented live show? It’s Jermaine Jones. In an emotional return, he sings “Dance With My Father”. Holy Cow! he put tears in my eyes, happy they brought him back.
Randy “the gentle giant returns, you have a different voice, you are so unique, congrats”. Jennifer “you have a special voice and a special spirit”. Steven “thank you for proving to us why we brought you back”.
That’s it for tonight, BTW, apparently each of the contestants drew up a list of songs to sing, from which the producers made a final choice. I believe it, too many songs just didn’t feel like the contestants chose them.
Don’t miss tomorrow night’s episode when the top girls sing for your vote!
