Andy Samberg Leaving SNL

Is Andy Samberg leaving SNL? All I have to say is that SNL is going to be a whole lot different come next season. Just a couple weeks after Kristen Wiig announced her departure from SNL, now Andy Samberg has thrown in the towel as well, confirming his departure from the show. Cue the “omg, SNL is going to suck” comments in 3..2..

Samberg confirmed the news to the New York Times on Friday saying, “It’s an incredibly emotional and strange moment in my life. Obviously it’s not a huge shock, but I did officially decide not to come back.”

Perhaps Wiig’s choice to leave had Samberg’s wheels turning? He continued, “She kept saying it just feels like it’s her time. I connect with that. Something about it just feels like it’s the moment. My contract’s up and I did so much more than I ever thought I would ever even do.”

Samberg has been on the SNL cast since 2005 and he was the guy that created such brilliant viral videos including my personal favorite the faux-music videos with my boy Justin Timberlake. Mother-loving anyone? Or what about the male nether region thrown up in a packaged box? When I think of SNL, the first people I think of are Samberg and Wiig. Unfortunately they BOTH will be gone next season.

I have a sneaking suspicion though that Samberg will be one of the few SNL cast members to having a thriving movie career. Samberg is set to star in the upcoming film That’s My Boy opposite Adam Sandler.

Needless to say, Andy will be missed!
