Dexter Season 7 Finale “Surprise, Motherf**fer!” Recap 12/16/12

Dexter Season 7 Finale 2012 “Surprise, Motherf**fer!” Recap 12/16/12

Tonight is an all new episode of Showtime’s DEXTER called “Surprise, Motherf**fer!” On tonight’s episode LaGuerta is on the verge of exposing Dexter and his killer ways, while he does his best to cover for himself and Debra, and maintain the life he’s created. Did you see last week’s episode? We did and we recapped it for you here!

On last week’s show it was Christmastime, and Debra learned it may be better to receive when she gets a tip from Hannah’s father, one that could have led to incriminating Dexter in a crime. Meanwhile, Dexter discovered that the man behind his mother’s death had been released from prison.  Hannah and Deb had a face off about who loved Dexter more. Deb said she’ll do anything to protect her brother from Hannah.

On tonight’s show La Guerta doesn’t have proof, but will that stop her from trying to bring Dexter in? Deb is seen telling Dexter that he needs to “fix it.” He says he will, he just doesn’t know how yet. It looks like, once again, Debra’s not going to sit back and let Dexter do it on his own. She goes to confront La Guerta and accuses her of trying to frame her brother, Dexter.  Captain La Guerta loses control and screams at Deb that Dexter’s the Bay Harbor Butcher, he has to be! With LaGuerta closing in, will Dexter try to take her out? She doesn’t fit the code, but lately, who does? Harry’s in Dexter’s head (as always) encouraging him to run and telling him not to drag Debra down with him. Dexter seems determined to protect his sister at all costs. Harry reiterates to Dex that La Guerta “doesn’t even begin” to meet the code.  Dexter justifies what he is thinking of doing by telling Harry, it is “the only option.”

Tonight’s recap:   As the season finale opens, Hannah’s cruising around the ladies jail to meet Dexter for a visit. It’s understandably awkward. He asks if they’re treating her well and she says her cell mate is nice – a meth head. Hannah asks why he turned her in when he said he loved her. He says she poisoned Deb. Hannah seems to admit it – she says “because she tried to keep us apart.”

Hannah tells him she’ll be behind bars forever  – she says he should have chosen her. Dex reminds her that Deb’s his sister. She gets up to walk away and Dexter asks her not to go. She wants to know why he’s there. He said he needs to see her, but Hannah knows better. She tells him she would never tell his secret – that she would never do that to him.

Dexter tells her if there was any other way to keep Deb safe, he would have done it. He’s clearly distraught and tells her he misses her so much. She dittoes that. Dexter is crying and says she’s the only person in the world he doesn’t have to hide from and he doesn’t know what he’s going to do without her. She tells him it’s not too late – that if the pen disappears, she can be free. She says they can run away together.

Dexter tells her he can never trust her and she can never trust him. He says they knew it would come to this – one of them dead or behind bars. She agreed and says she thought it would be him. Dexter says he’s sorry. He kisses her passionately and she bites his tongue – hard enough to stop him – hard enough to draw blood. He pulls away shocked and Hannah says good-bye.

Arlene gets a collect call from jail – it’s Hannah. She tells her she needs help, that she can’t stay behind bars. Arlene says she’ll be okay, that she hasn’t even had her trial yet. She reminds Arlene that she owes her for taking out the counselor who was abusing her. Arlene says to tell her what to do.

Dexter’s playing with Harrison who’s made a mess of his toys. Harrison says “I want Hannah.” Dexter looks sad. There’s a knock at the door. It’s La Guerta and some unis. She says it’s best if Harrison is in another room. La Guerta arrests him for the murder of Hector Estrada. What? He didn’t get the chance to kill him. What – what – what?

La Guerta mirandizes him and hauls him in to the station. Everyone stares and is shocked. Angel wants to know why she’s cuffed Dexter. She says she has evidence that he’s the Bay Harbor Butcher. Angel says it’s Doakes. Deb and Angel both confront her, but she refuses to back down. Angel tells Deb he’s on it.

La Guerta has Dexter in interrogation. She asks where he was last night and he said he was fishing and then went home to play with Harrison. Angel tells La Guerta that she’s got nothing. La Guerta has photos of Dexter carrying bags of something out to his boat. La Guerta accuses him again of being the BHB and of framing Doakes.

Dexter tells her this is about her desperate need to believe that Doakes was a cold blooded killer. He reminds her she was his partner and his lover and asks if she couldn’t see what was right in front of her, what was wrong with her? She says she’s going to nail him to the wall.

Vince comes in to tell her that the shirt did have Hector Estrada’s blood on it but it also had an evidence tag. It was the shirt he wore when he was booked in 1973. They also found his wallet and it had her fingerprint on it. She has to cut him loose.

La Guerta ends up in the elevator with Dexter and accuses him of setting her up. She tells him Doakes always knew something was wrong with him. Flashback – Doakes walks in and says “Surprise mother—-r!” They’re discussing a murder. Through the window of Dex’s lab, La Guerta motions to him and calls him over. She hands him keys and says “Sorry.” Was it a break up?

Back to now – Angel chases down La Guerta and confronts her about pushing to let Hector Estrada out on parole soon. He tells her everybody thinks she’s framing Dexter and that she needs to drop it before she loses her job. She paces for a moment and admits that it looks pretty bad. Angel tells her she can work her way out of it, but she needs to let it go.  At Dexter’s, Deb stops by. Deb asks for a heads up before he gets arrested next time. She tells him he’s destroyed La Guerta’s career and he said she’s destroyed lots of other people’s careers. He tells her that La Guerta almost caught him killing Estrada. He asked if she’d prefer if he solved the problem in his usual way. She tells him that’s very f-in funny.

Deb tells him Hannah’s being arraigned tomorrow and she could spill the beans on him to work a better deal. Dexter says she won’t because she’s in love with him. Good old dead Dad shows up for a chat and isn’t happy with Dexter’s actions.

Next day, Dex shows up at Hector’s wife’s house. He tells her that he’s Hector’s parole officer. She said she hasn’t seen him in years. There’s a guy inside the apartment yelling for her, but she says it’s not him. Dexter wants to know why they’re still married and she says she’s Catholic.

Flashback – Doakes and Dexter are working a case on a boat. Doakes asked him to explain it and Dex acts out the crime based on the spatter. Dex describes the murder likes it’s a love story. Doakes says he shouldn’t like it so much.

Back to now – Dexter’s outside the wife’s house and sees her sneak out of the apartment looking cagey. She gets in her car and takes off – Dex follows.

La Guerta’s in her office and Matthews comes in to see her. He tells her it’s all over the station that she tried to frame Dexter. He says there’s going to be an investigation of her actions. He says he’ll no doubt be called to testify and will have to say that they found definitive proof in the boat house that Doakes was the killer and he told her to stop.

She asks Matthews to have her back. She asks him to tell the commission to say she got caught up. He says she got caught up being an idiot. She tells him her job is at stake and begs for his help. He tells her he’ll try and to keep her head down and just do her job if she wants to keep it.

At Hannah’s arraignment, Deb’s there since she’s the arresting officer. Hannah asks how her wrist is and she says she’s getting better. Deb says she should save time and trouble and confess. Hannah says her conscience is clear. Hannah says it’s no wonder she needs all that Xanax to sleep at night knowing what her brother is. Hannah says she won’t tell, but asks her how she justifies arresting her and not Dexter. She asks her how it’s okay she turns a blind eye to Dexter? Deb says f-you and calls her a liar. Hannah says at least she’s not a hypocrite.

Hannah’s denied bail and Arlene’s there and starts crying. She rushes to hug Hannah and slips her something.

Angel comes in to check on La Guerta. She said everyone is avoiding her. Angel says it’s because they’re waiting to see how it comes out. He says she needs to come to his party (New Years plus his retirement) and that she should apologize to Dexter in public.

Hannah’s in the back of the prison transport van and starts convulsing. They rush in to check on her and then divert to the hospital. Hmm. Perhaps Arlene brought her something from her garden… She does know her herbs. Hannah’s at the hospital, zip tied to the bed and really out of it.

Estrada’s wife stops at a park and Dex follows. She’s carrying some bags. He says he hopes his hunch is right and she’s there to help Hector.

La Guerta calls Deb in and says she was right. She tells Deb that she was right and she let her feelings for Doakes get in the way. She says what she did to Dexter was negligent and unforgiveable. She says she’ll probably be suspended or worse. Deb says she hopes not.

La Guerta said in case she’s not going to be there, she needs to close up some loose ends. She pulls out the file on Travis Marshall. She says she needs to clear up the timeline. She asks Deb if she was ever at the church where he died.

La Guerta pulls out an envelope and she says Sgt Mike Anderson’s wife sent her some video footage he had ordered of gas stations near the church. She’s got video of Deb pumping gas at the gas station – that was the gas that flamed up the church! She’s seen pumping into a gas can.

La Guerta wants to know why she was pumping gas into a gas can. She wants to know why she lied about being near the church. La Guerta asks Deb if there’s something she wants to get off her chest and Deb says yes. She tells La Guerta that she’s been under a lot of stress. La Guerta says “You know what I think?” She says she’s not the only person who made a mistake trying to protect someone she cared about.

Deb asks is there’s anything else and she says no, but there will be more – that it’s the start of a much larger conversation. She tells her she can count on it. Uh oh.

In the park, Dex sees Estrada and his wife. She’s brought him  gun and some other essentials. Hector lounges in the sun. Dexter’s paying off some kids to throw a ball at Hector. He chases them out of the park, Dex puts a shot in his neck and tosses him in his trunk. He gets an urgent call from Deb and says to give him 15.

At the hospital, they think Hannah’s catatonic, but she’s wiggling her fingers.

Deb tells Dex about her convo with La Guerta. He tells her he’ll fix it, but he doesn’t know how yet. She asks her brother if they’re really that f-ed. He says she was only buying gas. Deb says that buying gas to burn down the church is a big deal. Dex says if it’s just the DVD he can take care of it. He says he needs to know what all she has. He tells her to go back to work and act normal. There’s a noise at the back of his car and Deb asks what the hell is that and he says “Estrada.” Deb rolls her eye and gets out and walks away.

At the hospital, Hannah’s gone.

Dexter’s at La Guerta’s and Harry’s keeping him company. He asked what he’s hoping to find and he says he doesn’t know. He finds warrants to track the GPS on his and Deb’s phones the night of Travis Marshall’s murder. Dex realizes instantly that this will tie both him and Deb to his death. Harry tells him to run – to take Deb and Harrison and go.

Harry says that running was always the plan.

Dexter tells him that the imaginary life they created for him became real and he can’t leave it. Dexter tells Harry he’s got to kill her and Harry says no. Dexter says he’s got to protect Deb at all costs.

Flashback – Dexter’s got donuts for everyone and Doakes curses at him. He says it’s not him – it’s La Guerta – that he never should have gotten involved with her. Dexter says “Never jump a fence if you’re not willing to face what’s on the other side.” Doakes asks where he heard it and he says from a friend. Doakes tells Dexter he has no friends and then pulls out a journal from the hooker killer Monroe.

He reads the exact quote from the journal. He tells Dex there’s something off about him – he tells Dex that he’s hiding something, that he’s a creep mother—-r and that he’s going to find out what it is.

La Guerta gets a call from Hector Estrada. He tells her needs his help – tells her he’s back at the shopping yard in the same container. He asks Dexter if he’ll let him go now. Dex says no and asks if he thinks he can be a killer and not a liar. Dex pulls out a knife (where’s the chainsaw?) and Hector apologizes for having his mother killed. He says his mother was a snitch and it was her or him. He says it was 40 years ago and asks why they’re still talking about it.

Dexter asks if it made him feel bad. Hector said it was her or him. Dexter tells him killing him will be easy, but he’s got another kill that will not be so easy. Hector says that’s why he had to kill his mother too – survival. Hector says those are normal reason. Dex says he’s never killed for normal reason. Hector tries to empathize. Hector asks what he is and Dex quotes Doakes and says “I’m just a creep mother—-r.”

Deb shows up at Angel’s party and asks Jamie if she’s seen Dex. Jamie says he’s not there and that Harrison conked out. Quinn’s getting wasted and Jamie comes over to chat him up. They start flirting until Angel shows up and slaps a firm hand on Quinn’s shoulder. Ooh. Is sleeping Harrison unattended? Don’t forget Hannah’s on the loose.

Angel tells Vince he can’t put on a diaper and come out as Baby New Year. Vince tells him “try and stop me.” Gross.

Deb asks Angel if she’s seen Dex or La Guerta and he says no. She calls into dispatch for a 20 on La Guerta’s car and is told she’s at the shipping yard. Deb calls Dex and gets no answer – she leaves a message for him not to do what he’s thinking about doing and runs out.

Hannah shows up at Dexter’s place and leaves a plant.

At the shipping yard, La Guerta gets out into the foggy night, gun drawn. She comes into the freight car and finds dead Hector. Dex gives her the paralytic shot to the neck and goes to work. Harry’s there and asks him what the plan is. He’s not going to kill her – he’s going to set her up. He’s going to use her gun to shoot through the stab wound in Hector’s stomach and then use Hector’s gun to shoot La Guerta. Harry asks him where it will end.

Now there’s another player at the party. Deb shows up and says shit Dex, what have you done? She hears a gun shot. Deb comes in to the freight car. She pulls the gun on him. He tells her she shouldn’t be there. She asks him what he’s doing and he says he’s doing what needs to be done. Deb cries and tells him she can’t let him do it. La Guerta comes to and tells Deb to kill Dexter – she tells her to shoot him. La Guerta says, this is not who you are – she says she’s a good person and not like him.

Dexter tells her that everything La Guerta says is true – that she is a good person. He drops the knife and spreads his arms and tells her do what you’ve got to do. Deb is crying and calling his name. She shoots. Holy crap she shot La Guerta. Then she takes her in her arms and sobs as she holds her body.

Dexter is stunned – hell, I’m stunned! How the hell are they going to clean up that mess?

It’s New Years at Angel’s club. Deb and Dex walk into the party together. He asks himself if it’s a new beginning or the beginning of the end? Auld Lang Syne plays, fireworks explode brilliantly. That’s it. Finis.

 THE END!
