It appears that Honey Boo Boo is more in the news than any other reality television star, including the Kardashians and the Real Housewives. Her cute, captivating personality has forced people to buy into the Thompson/hillbilly brand. Honey Boo Boo and her family of funny fame whores have become international pop culture phenomena, quickly on their way to surpass the most die-hard of reality television stars. Their smash hit television show – Here Comes Honey Boo Boo –acquired some of the highest ratings in the history of the TLC network and is also currently one of the most watched television shows in the United States. However, the price of fame is slowly starting to outweigh the popularity. Honey Boo Boo went on a grueling press trip in Hollywood, something that not only drained the little one, but also caused a national uproar.
Honey Boo Boo appeared on Dr. Drew’s live talk show during this press trip, but unfortunately, Honey Boo Boo’s bizarre behavior and visible fatigue became the only focal point. In the YouTube video clip, Honey Boo Boo pretended to fall asleep while Dr. Drew was speaking to her. He attempted to ask her a question, but she ignored him, pulled a face, and almost slapped him on the cheek. A visibly embarrassed Mama Boo Boo June Shannon laughed off the incident during the interview and attempted to stop Honey Boo Boo from acting out. Honey Boo Boo was asked by Dr. Drew if she likes being on television, to which she responded, and we quote very loosely, “No, I don’t want to! I hate it.”
Alana “Honey Boo Boo” Thompson is only seven-years-old. Didn’t anyone stop to think that her appearance on a reality television show might come across as – ahem – exploitative? Toddlers and Tiaras, the original show Honey Boo Boo appeared on, is bad enough as is, so who in their right minds believed that a kid at this age would be able to handle the pressures of Hollywood fame and reality television? What will become of Honey Boo Boo? Her family is already reaping the rewards of fame by selling her out. What if Honey Boo Boo ends up hating her life, family, and childhood?
