After a ridiculously successful first season on TLC, the family of Here Comes Honey Boo Boo star, Alana Thompson is already beginning to see that the fame and notoriety has a serious downside. First the family’s home was broken into and someone has been calling Alana’s rural school and threatening to kidnap the young reality star. June Shannon, Mama Boo Boo, is said to be a nervous wreck over her daughter’s safety and is using some of that extra cash that they’ve made to invest in higher security measures.
Enquirer reports:“June is terrified,” a source revealed exclusively to The ENQUIRER. “With the threats on Alana’s safety increasing, security is being provided for her around the clock. “There was a meeting with all the teachers at Alana’s school,” the source continued. “They have been instructed to keep an eye on Alana, and they know to report anything suspicious immediately. “Nothing was stolen that they know of, but the police take every threat very seriously,” said the source. “They warned the family that whoever broke into the home may have been casing the place for a future kidnap attempt by someone convinced that TLC would pay a huge ransom for their newest little star. “They’ve thought about moving, but the problem is that TLC has them locked under contract to keep their lifestyle– and that means they have to stay put,” explained the source. “Face it, this is a poor area, and Honey Boo Boo’s family is now seen as the wealthiest one around.”
If you’ve watched the show then you’re familiar with the family home which is truly in the middle of nowhere. They may be making a nice chunk of cash but they can’t use it to upgrade much about their living situation. TLC likes the fact that these rednecks “shop” at the local dumpsters and that June considers Bingo a sport. Even though they obviously have the means to live a better lifestyle, that’s simply not what their fans want to see happen. Maintaining their quality of life as it is has been made super-easy thanks to their TLC windfall, but it does put Alana at serious risk. She is accessible and this family obviously has the money to pay a ransom now only adding to the incentive to try and snatch this kid.
