Chiheb Esseghaier - What To Know About Al Qaeda Terrorist Suspect

Chiheb Esseghaier is one of the two terrorists accused in the Al Qaeda plot to derail a passenger train in Canada, and he has been airlifted to Toronto. He was arrested in Montreal when the RCMP managed to track down his whereabouts after collecting details of the planned terrorist attack.

Some things to know about him: he’s 30 years old, and has been living in Montreal for what looks like the better half of the last five years. Chiheb has a Linkedin account that is no doubt about to be shut down, but before it is, we have gleaned a good look at its contents. Chiheb was born in Tunisia, and after spending one year as a researcher there, he moved to Canada. He spent the last three years studying biotechnology as a PhD student.

You know, when you see these kinds of details, it’s almost frightening to think about how normal these people are. They act like everybody else and work in jobs that are normal, all while planning an attack that could kill their neighbors, their friends, people they’ve come to know over the past few years.

The one flag in his information is his Linkedin profile picture – which just happened to be a variant of a Jihadist flag used by the Islamic state of Iraq. Now, most people who saw his Linkedin probably wouldn’t understand what that is, and of course, freedom of speech is an important right that everyone in the US and Canada has. However, shouldn’t this have flagged something with the government? Or maybe it did, and what’s what led to his capture. Either way, it’s a good thing that the authorities manage to capture him and his partner before they managed to carry out their attack. It is curious to think about why they were involved in an Al Qaeda element from Iran – especially because they’re from Tunisia. No doubt, the government will start uncovering more as we move forward, so stay tuned to Celeb Dirty Laundry for updates.
