Money, fame and a loving family can’t fix everything and perky morning co-host Kelly Ripa has found this out the hard way. The 42-year old mom of three has spoken pretty openly about battling what she believes to be misophonia (hatred of sound), a rare and incurable neurological disorder that causes people to fly off the handle. Supposedly certain sounds are unbearable to sufferers and it triggers a raging outburst that is hard to keep in check.
According to the July 22nd print edition of National Enquirer chewing and loud noises made by eating is what causes Kelly to fly off the handle. Ironically she has never been officially diagnosed with Misophonia although she insists that it is what she’s suffering from. She has worked hard to keep her reactions under control but according to a well-placed source her sensitivity seems to be getting worse and that is likely what prompted Kelly and her husband, Mark Consuelos to put their Soho loft on the market for more than 24 million.
Poor Mark is said to spend a lot of time trouble shooting the things that will set Kelly off and he was the one that pushed to buy property in Telluride, Colorado. It’s a nice peaceful area with minimal noise to trigger any sort of outbursts from his wife. Kelly has admitted that even if Mark eats a peach he knows to take it into another room because she can’t stand the slurping!
I wonder why Kelly has never gone for a real medical evaluation and instead relies on her self-diagnosis. Perhaps she is one of those people that doesn’t want to hear any type of confirmation that something really is wrong with her! I can totally see Mark trying to keep the peace.
