According to recent reports, Kim Kardashian is desperately trying to change her last name to West. It’s a futile attempt, considering her numerous endorsement deals and contracts probably won’t allow the change, but it’s still funny to try to see her try to leverage every ounce of publicity from her engagement to Kanye West.
So far, what do we know about Kim’s wedding to Kanye? Contrary to popular belief, Bruce Jenner will be walking Kim down the aisle – or at least, until he gets cold feet and cancels. The wedding will take place approximately a year from now, and Kim and Kanye will reportedly sign a pre-nup [despite rumors that they weren’t going to].
When asked about whether she was willing to take Kanye’s last name, Kim was reportedly vehemently in favor of it according to E! – and they should know, right? But even then, does she not realize that keeping her name ‘Kim Kardashian’ is essential to all the various brands she’s involved in? In addition to sounding ridiculous, Kim West sounds incredibly generic. The one thing the Kardashians have got going for them is that their names are memorable, and ‘Kardashian’ has become a multi-million brand based solely on its name, much to many people’s chagrin.
Of course, I wouldn’t be surprised if the name change was Kanye’s suggestion. He seems to have an inflated worth of everything relating to himself, and he probably thinks West is a far superior last name to have. I’m sure there’s also the fact that he’s slowly trying to distance Kim from the rest of the family, considering since he hates their guts. But will it work when she has contractual obligations to promote the Kardashian name?
