Arrow Recap 12/3/14: Season 3 Episode 8 “The Brave and the Bold”
On tonight’s episode of the “Arrow”, the gang was still on the hunt for their killer when they were abruptly stopped by member of A.R.G.U.S. It seems the man Digger Harkness aka Captain Boomerang ruthlessly killed was actually an A.R.G.U.S agent. And so now A.R.G.U.S wants to assume control over the entire manhunt.
Meaning, at least in terms of a certain team, there’s a no vigilante required rule. However Oliver and his people aren’t backing down. Not only are they not the type, but they want to get Harkness just as much as the other guys and they have the resources to do so.
Team Arrow got extra help when Barry Allen and his friends decided to show up in Starling City. Originally it was just Caitlin and Cisco that came for a visit. But after the two were finished ogling Arrow headquarters, they realized team Arrow might need an extra hand. So they called in Barry.
Barry with his super speed was exactly what Oliver needed. Harkness had attacked ARGUS head office. And he did that in order to get to Lila. Lila had apparently pulled a plug on one of their missions and that meant everyone involved had to be “sanitized”. Another word for killed. So former ARGUS member, Harkness, has every reason in the world to be angry with Lila. Though he didn’t know how high up her friends went.
Barry and Oliver stopped Harkness from getting to Lila but they hadn’t captured him at the time. Yet working together to later find Harkness doesn’t appear to be working out.
Oliver was hesitant about allowing Barry and his friends to help. He didn’t think those guys could handle his “methods”. And to a point – he was right. Barry was quick to offer assistance but once he saw the Arrow and not Oliver his friend in action – he began to regret sticking around.
Oliver is a bit more brutish when comes to getting information. And Barry just couldn’t comprehend why. Oliver had told him about all he’s been through yet Barry’s own home life wasn’t as peaceful. They both witnessed their mothers’ murders and that hasn’t changed Barry as much it did with Oliver.
Barry still believes that the good guys should strive to better than the criminals. And Oliver’s version of a good guy is a tad skewered. He was trained by killers and A.R.G.U.S. They fingerprints remain of everything Oliver has touched.
Luckily, in spite of their differences, Barry chose to stay on in Starling. Lila still needed help and Barry was hoping to eventually get through to Oliver about his morals. So the Central City guys stayed on. And while all the boys had left the women back at headquarters – they were roaming the city looking for Harkness.
Unfortunately, Harkness had already found out where Lilia was hiding. So he, himself, hid until the guys left and then he made his move. And by move, he started throwing around his lethal boomerangs. One of them managed to hit Lila before Felicity could chase off Harkness.
Caitlin saved Lila’s life but she didn’t have the resources to operate on her properly so Barry had to rush her to the hospital in time.
In the face of Lila getting injured, Barry and his friends started to take their crime fighting team a little more seriously. It’s easy to joke about meta-humans but when one of their own nearly dies – it alerts them the fact they aren’t playing a child’s game.
And as for Barry, he finally had enough with Oliver blaming his circumstances for how he turned out. Barry told him that was a load of crap. Oliver doesn’t have to sacrifice his humanity to get the job done. He’s actually fooling himself if he seriously believes that. Barry told him he was suppressing that side because it was easier for him.
If that sounds familiar it’s because Felicity and even Diggle had told Oliver something along those lines a couple of months ago. Everyone that cares about Oliver wants him to be happy. It’s only Oliver that’s standing in his own way.
And after they found Harkness and even out masterminded his safety hatch of attempting to set of five bombs around the city, Oliver was a given a reason to smile. Lila was doing ok and Cisco had also showed his appreciation of the team by creating a new body suit for him.
So Oliver did something he generally didn’t have time for – he had some fun. He tested himself against Barry to see once and for all who was quicker. Barry or Oliver’s arrows!
The End!
