So I guess all those preliminary reports about Neil Patrick Harris [inspired] or Chris Pratt [expected] taking People Magazine’s annual Sexiest Man Alive honor were just that – preliminary reports. Chris Hemsworth was crowned People Magazine’s Sexiest Man Alive this morning, with the full People photo spread and accompanying interview adorning the pages of the tabloid.
Chris Hemsworth follows Adam Levine, who was crowned the SMA in 2013. When asked about this honor, Chris told the media, “Thank you, I’m most excited about the alive portion of that statement, and the sexy part is a bonus.”
Chris also jokes about Jimmy Kimmel’s rivalry with Matt Damon, adding, “I learned everything there is about being sexy from Matt — pursing the lips, squinting at the right time. Thank you Matt and all the other previous intelligent men.”
You know, this is an interesting choice for the SMA. Honestly, Chris Pratt would have been the logical choice – Parks and Recreations is a very popular show, and Guardians of the Galaxy did significantly better in its first outing than any of the Thor movies have done to date. Plus, Chris Pratt is American, and SMA contenders usually tend to be American. And what other Marvel hero could they have gone for? Like I said, Pratt would have been the logical choice, and Captain America Chris Evans would rather have dipped his head in dung than taken this kind of honor. That pretty much left Robert Downey Jr. and Chris Hemsworth, and RDJ has already been the recipient of such an honor.
So in the end, this SMA deal was probably worked out between Chris, his publicists, and People Magazine in exchange for all sorts of uncurtailed access to Chris’ life. Because seriously, does the American public really care about Chris Hemsworth?
