Jennifer Aniston has trotted out her best and most prized awards campaign tool – Justin Theroux. The couple is rarely, rarely seen together, even though they keep denying rumors of a breakup. They’ve been engaged for more than a year now, and have been dating for far longer than that, but whenever people ask them about the engagement, they play coy. Even Brad Pitt and George Clooney have gotten married already, which means either Jennifer’s ‘engagement’ was all just a publicity ploy or she’s saving that marriage for something bigger – an Oscar campaign, perhaps?
That’s why it’s no surprise that Jennifer and Justin came out for the Governor’s Awards this weekend, and why they decided to maximize their PDA on the red carpet. They do this every time either one of them has something to sell, whether it’s Justin’s TV show The Leftovers or Jennifer’s sad attempt for Oscar buzz, Cake. Now, Cake got decent reviews and I’m sure there are some pundits out there who think that Jennifer deserves a spot on the table – if for no other reason than she decided to ‘ugly’ herself up for the role. But in the company of Julianne Moore and Patricia Arquette? So not happening.
That’s obviously not going to stop Jennifer Aniston from trying, and it’s definitely not going to stop her from utilizing Justin Theroux to land that elusive Oscar nomination. But I would say that her chances are still next to nil, even if she pulls out all the stops.
