Tonight’s episode of Threads features three new young designers, Alex, Molly, and Julia.  They are competing with their adult assistants for a chance to take home the $25,000 prize.  Vanessa Simmons pays the designers a visit and announces that this week’s challenge will be creating a “cover-worthy look for the next Seventeen magazine cover.” And, the winner of this week’s challenge will get a chance to travel to New York City and spend a day at Seventeen Magazine head-quarters. They have just one days to complete their look.

Alex, Molly, and Julia head to the work room and begin mingling and getting to know each other and checking out each other’s “dream boards.”  Since Julie won the “Show Us Your Style” competition earlier – Vanessa arrives and announces that Julie has an advantage and will be able to put a stop sign on Molly and Alex’s desks during the competition – and if she does that designer will have to sit out for thirty minutes and could fall behind.

Everyone gets to work and sketching their dresses and planning their fabric choices.  Alex is confident and calm and much farther ahead of Julia and Molly – who can’t seem to make up their minds on what fabrics they want to use.  Once all three designers are finally starting to make some progress – Vanessa Simmons arrives and reveals that they have to create a second look.  Each designer will be given sequins, drawstring, a plain white dress, satin, fringe, and purple dye and must incorporate all items in one look.

The models arrive for their fittings – and Alex and Julia begin dressing their models and Molly begins panicking because she doesn’t even have a dress to try on her model.  As soon as the models leave and Molly and Alex get to work on their adjustments and measurements, Julia decides it is a perfect time to use her stop signs and tells them they both have to stop working for 30 minutes while she catches up.

After the 30 minutes are up, Alex and Molly begin racing around and putting the final touches on their dress.  Molly begins panicking and becoming frazzled when she realizes that the glue she used on her dress actually stained the back of it – her mom steps in and helps her bunch up the fabric and hide the stains.  Meanwhile, Alex and Julia are certain that Molly is not a threat to them and are worried about each other’s designs.
Time is officially up and Molly, Alex, and Julia have to dress their models and prepare them for the runway.  The judges, Vanessa Simmons, and the designers and their assistants take their seats at the Threads runway – and the models begin parading down the runway in their “Seventeen cover ready” designs.

Afterwards the judges rave over Alex’s floral dress, and even compare it to something that Ariana Grande would wear.  However, his second look is not a hit – and the judges can tell he rushed through the white dress and didn’t put much thought in to it. Molly’s dress goes over well with the judges, however they think that it is too simple or adult for the cover of a teen magazine.  Julie’s dress has a chevron collar which the judges think is a “little too crafty.”  And, she put fringe under the arms of her second dress, and Vanessa Simmons is not a fan – she says it looks the models armpit hair.

After careful consideration, the judges announce that this week’s winner of Threads and a $25,000 price package is…Julia.

THE END!
