Sleepy Hollow Premiere Recap Season 2 “This is War”

Tonight on FOX their mystery adventure drama SLEEPY HOLLOW returns with an all new Monday September 22, Season 2 premiere episode called “This is War.” On tonight’s episode, Ichabod is buried alive in a coffin; Abbie’s in danger of spending an eternity in purgatory; Katrina is a reluctant guest of the Headless Horseman; Capt. Irving is in jail on a murder charge; and Jenny is in a car accident.

For those of you who aren’t familiar with the show, Ichabod Crane, a soldier in the Colonial Army, on a mission for General George Washington, kills the Headless Horseman, as the Horseman kills him. More than 230 years later, in the present-day, Ichabod rises from his grave, after the Headless Horseman (revealed to be Death, one of the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse), is summoned back from his watery grave by an unknown party. The resurrection of the one causes the other to also come back to life as a result of their blood mixing shortly after Crane decapitated the Headless Horseman on the field of battle.

On tonight’s show picking up immediately after the spellbinding events of the Season One finale, Ichabod finds himself buried alive in a coffin; Abbie is trapped in purgatory; Ichabod’s wife, Katrina, has been kidnapped by the Headless Horseman; Capt. Frank Irving is behind bars for a murder he did not commit; and Abbie’s sister, Jenny, is among the wreckage of a horrific car crash. These events were due, in large part, to the shocking revelation that Henry Parish, the trusted friend of Ichabod and Abbie, is actually Ichabod and Katrina’s son and the Second Horseman of the Apocalypse. Now, with Henry’s emergence as the Horseman of War, alongside the Headless Horseman.

Tonight’s episode of Sleepy Hollow kicks off with Ichabod’s birthday, Abby surprises him with a birthday cupcake with a candle and tells him to make a wish, he isn’t exactly a fan of modern birthday rituals. They are reflecting on the last year, and Abbie receives a phone call. A parofessor at the historical society needs to see Abbie and Ichabod ASAP to show them something he discovered, and he fears he is in danger. They arrive at the building and find a security guard beheaded outside. They grab their weapons from the trunk and Abbie warns Ichabod that this is what he has been training for.

Abbie and Ichabod head inside, and find the professor dead. They find a piece of paper on the desk about Benjamin Franklin, Abbie is baffled why the Headless Horseman wants information on Benjamin Franklin. Ichabod knew Franklin and he thought he was insufferable and always trying to prove his intellectual abilities. While they are investigating the professor’s desk, the headless horseman arrives and they get in a shoot-out. The horseman retreats and Ichabod tries to chase after him, and Abbie stops him, but he screams that he killed his wife. Abbie convinces him that they can’t follow him because they are low on ammo.

They decide their best hope at taking down the headless horseman is finding out what he wants with Benjamin Franklin. They find a picture of an old black key in the Franklin files, and Ichabod says he remembers it. He was Franklin’s apprentice, and Franklin was determined to destroy the key, that’s why he tied it to a kite so that it could be struck by lightning, but it didn’t work. The key opens the door of Ghenna, another word for Purgatory. If the horseman finds the key, he can open the door to Purgatory, and let out everyone and everything trapped in the world.

Now, Abbie and Ichabod have to find the key to Ghenna before the horseman find it. They decide to pay their prisoner Henry a visit to see if he knows where the key is located. They give him the professor’s files on Franklin, and he touches the papers and says that they are useless. He says that Corbin might have information on the key.

Abbie and Ichabod head out in to the hallway to discuss Corbin, and they suddenly can’t remember anything, Ichabod begins gasping for air. They realize that it has all been an illusion and Henry tricked them, Abbie is still trapped in Purgatory, and Ichabod is strapped down in a coffin.

Jenny wakes up and finds Henry standing over her, he informs her that Abbie is gone and she abandoned her. He demands to know where the key is that Corbin sent her to retrieve. He grabs her head to read her mind, he reveals to his assistant that the page in her mind is written in code and he has to decipher it, he tells him to keep an eye on Jenny.

Ichabod is still trapped in the coffin, he punched the lid and some dirt falls on his face, he tastes it and realizes it is sulfur. Ichabod’s wife Katrina is still alive and tied to a chair. The headless horseman comes in and unties her hands and offers her some bread. She stabs his hand with his knife, so he grabs her and ties her back up in the chair.

Abbie runs in to Brooks while she is trying to figure out how to escape Purgatory, and he informs her that Molick is creating a demon army and waiting for Henry to open the door to the outside world with the black key so that they can head to the human world and attack. Abbie tells Brooks she needs his help to contact the outside world and warn Ichabod. Meanwhile, Ichabod manages to use a rock and a stick to create a spark in his coffin, and uses the sulfur dirt to blow the lid of the coffin he is trapped in.

While Henry is gone, Jenny manages to break free and overpowers the guard. She texts Crane and tells him that she is trapped in the warehouse off from Route 9. Back in Purgatory, Brooks shows Abbie Molick’s tent and tells her that she can sneak in while he isn’t there and use his mirror to interact with Crane in the outside world.

Crane arrives at the warehouse with a stolen ambulance just in time to rescue Jenny after a brief shoot-out. He reveals to her that her sister Abbie is still trapped in Purgatory, and they can get her out if they find Benjamin Franklin’s key before Henry finds it.

Jenny hands over Corbin’s sketchbook about Benjamin Franklin’s key, but it is in some sort of code. Crane recognizes the code, Franklin forced him to learn it while he was his apprentice. According to what Franklin wrote in code, the key is with the one person Franklin trusted, himself. Jenny says she thinks she knows where to look, and they rush off. While they are in the car, Ichabod glances in the mirror and sees Abbie in Molick’s lair, he tells her that he and Jenny are on their way to get the key to save her. Abbie thinks it is a trap, and the demons are just waiting for them to find the key and open the door. Ichabod insists he isn’t leaving her, and they are opening the door to get her out, Abbie tells him to prepare for Molick’s demon army because once the door is opened they are going to try to rush out.

Jenny and Ichabod head to the building where they were supposed to meet the professor, and Ichabod remembers Franklin telling him that “they key to the code lies under the alarm clock.” There is a huge clock hanging on the front of the building, Ichabod finds a loose brick with the intitials “BF” engraved on it and removes it. Behind the brick is the key to Purgatory.

Katrina is still being held by the headless horseman, suddenly his head appears, and it is her ex Abraham. She insists that she has given her heart to Ichabod, but Abraham wipes her tears and says that she is going to “start anew.”

Ichabod and Jenny head to the woods and he uses the key to open the door to Purgatory, Jenny reminds him to get Abbie and get out, and don’t eat or drink anything while he is in there. Abbie is searching the woods looking for the amulet that Katrina gave her, Ichabod finds her and offers her a drink of water. Just as she is about to take a drink from the canteen, the real Ichabod appears and screams at her to “stop.”

After Ichabod knocks out the fake Ichabod, he scoops Abbie up and tells her to recite the phrase so that they can open the door. Abbie realizes that it is actually the fake Ichabod because he pronounces her name wrong, and beheads him. The real Ichabod comes racing out of the woods and he and Abbie run to the gate and use the key to unlock it. As Molick is chasing them, they slip through the gate and slam the door shut just in time. Jenny rushes to greet Abbie and Ichabod once they re-enter the real world.

They head back to the cabin, and Abbie tells Ichabod they have some catching up to do. Ichabod says that the headless horse man is holding his wife captive and the horseman of war is his son. Abbie announces that “this is war.”

The episode closes with Mollick contacting Henry in a mirror, Henry reveals to him that the key has been destroyed. Mollick has new work for him to do, a man in armor walks through the wall and Mollick informs Henry that he is the new horseman.

THE END!
