RECAP:

#AmericanOdyssey begins with a plane flying over the desert. Aslam, Luc and Odelle are on board. Luc says they have arrived. They are at a coastal city in Algeria west of Oran. They exit the plane and look at the ocean. Aslam goes for the water. Odelle tells him it’s amazing and he says he’s only seen pictures. She tells him to go dig his toes in the sand and he heads down and gets his feet wet. Odelle sits to watch him have fun. Luc comes with their bags and startles her. He tells her she can relax.

He says no one is hunting her anymore. He tells her they are in Algeria and says it’s only accessible by boat or plane and his home away from home. He says he has a route to Spain he uses for his drug runs. She asks if he’ll come along and he says he has unresolved issues there. He says he’s heading back to Mali. He offers to take Aslam back and she says she won’t leave the boy there. She says he has no family in Africa and Luc say she has none in America either.

Harrison talks to the cops and asks if they will investigate Osela and says Ruby killed his father and works for them. The woman takes notes and he asks what she’s writing and if he’s free to go. She says he can go but says they should go over this again. He says if they didn’t shoot Ruby they could be talking to her. She asks about the scratch on his arm. He says he was struggling with Ruby. She asks if he wants someone to look at it but he says he needs someone to investigate Osela.

He says they are murdering people on US soil with impunity. She tells him they take all leads seriously but tells him he’s been through a trauma and should go home. He leaves angry. Peter meets Joe at a seedy diner and he says Baker is calling in the notes on Greek and are holding Sophia’s feet to the fire. Peter gets a text from Harrison asking him to call. Joe says he heard Sophia is flying in to meet with Baker and the evil Jenifer Wachtel is mediating.

Joe tells him he put up a good fight but they’re just too powerful. Peter says this fight cost him everything. Odelle asks Aslam how it feels being away from Mali for the first time. He says the sea is bigger than he thought. They keep their feet in the water and she says the water back home is warmer. She says the trick is to get in fast and get past the shock. She tells him about digging for clams and swimming in Cape Cod. She asks how it sounds. He says different.

Luc says it’s another planet and offers to take Aslam back to Mali. He says everyone is everyone’s uncle. Odelle tells Luc it’s not up to him and Aslam tells Odelle it’s not up to her either and he walks away and says to leave him alone. Luc shows them where his house is. Later, Luc and Odelle clean up and go out for dinner. He tells her she looks beautiful. She thanks him and says he cleans up nice too. She says it’s been a long time since she could relax. He says that’s the nice thing about being dead.

Luc says Aslam is by the water and he tells her they should eat before she talks to him. She asks if it’s a festival and he says it’s a welcome for him. She asks why and he says he built a school. He says he likes the people there. The locals greet him warmly. Harrison comes to see Bob and is surprised the door was left open. He says it’s Banks and says it’s Osela. He says they have him and says Ruby told him everything. Bob asks what happened and Harrison says the cops shot her.

He says it was stupid. He asks about his arm and Harrison says it’s nothing. He sees an urn and asks if it’s his mom. Harrison moves from her chair and Bob puts the urn back there. He’s in shock about Ruby. Harrison says Ruby told him she was having sex with Banks and says they had to talk to each other about murdering his father.

Bob asks about Patreaus. He says they shared an email account and just read each others drafts. Bob logs onto the web and Harrison says he’s going to post a blog about all this and then rants about why Peter hasn’t called him back. He heads out all flustered. A girl sits down by Aslam and asks if he was with Luc. Odelle and Luc are nearby and she sees him talking to a girl. Luc tells her it doesn’t matter. Aslam says his friend wants him to go to America and she thinks it’s cool.

She holds his hands and says they’re not bad then tells him to come with her. They walk down the beach away from everyone. Luc tells Odelle that she has created a fantasy about what life would be like for Aslam in America and says they will attack her any way she can and will go after her family too. He says her future is very complicated. A local tells Luc he must come dance and he makes Odelle join them too but she says she doesn’t like to dance.

He takes her in his arms and they dance around. Suzanne waits for her dad Ron to come home. He had gone to meet Julia but says she didn’t show. She says maybe she was late but Ron says he waited for more than an hour. She asks why she would lie then asks why her mom would go where Colonel Glenn told her instead of staying with them. She says her mom promised to be back in a couple of weeks and Ron says her mom wouldn’t choose to leave her and would be with them if she could.

Suzanne asks if her mom is coming back and Ron says she isn’t. She cries and he holds her. Luc tells Odelle there are few people in the world like her and she says she wants to be a good example for her daughter. He says he’s sure she’s extraordinary too and she says she is. Odelle says it’s getting late but Luc says he’ll walk a little longer. She tells him goodnight. Luc looks back at her as she walks away. Harrison comes to see Peter at work and is told he doesn’t work there any more.

Joe grabs him and says they need to take this outside. Outside, Harrison tells Joe he knows everything and asks for Peter’s home address. He says he’s writing a story about Osela and the murder and Joe says Peter has been trying to expose SOC for weeks and got fired for it. He tells Harrison that not every guy in a suit is a jerk. His arm is killing him. Bob calls and he asks if Ruby has a key generator. He says he hacked Bank’s computer and found an encrypted email server.

He asks if she has one and Harrison asks what it looks like. Bob sends him a photo and Harrison says crap then says it’s at King’s Point at the house. Bob says they have to go out there. Odelle calls to Aslam but he doesn’t answer. She goes downstairs and looks around for him. She also calls out for Luc. Neither answer. She finds Luc at the plane and he says he doesn’t know where Alsam is and says someone cut the wires to the plane’s engine last night.

Odelle says that tells them that Alsam doesn’t want to go back to Mali. He tells her the kid is 14 with no passport and she says the New York Times will help. He asks what her family will say and she says she doesn’t know then asks about the girl from last night. He talks to the mechanic and Odelle heads out to find Aslam. Harrison cuts the crime scene tape at the house and they head inside to look around. It’s still a mess from the day before.

Harrison thinks about Ruby saying her future was jail or death. Bob sees the blood stains and asks if that’s where she died. He says he saw the key generator near the armoire and they look around. Harrison finds it and thinks about them grappling just before she was shot to death.

Peter lurks in the hotel waiting for a chance to talk to Sophia. He speaks to one of her security men and asks to see her. They take him upstairs. Sophia asks for a moment alone with him. Her people step out. He thanks her for seeing him. She says the flowers are lovely and asks him to sit. She says she has been very busy and he says he knows why she’s avoiding him. Sophia says she tried but they didn’t have enough and she can’t Greece go into default.

Peter says she doesn’t have to and hands her a flash drive and says it’s enough to destroy SOC and Baker. She says he’ll be prosecuted for murder if she does and he says that doesn’t matter. She says his family needs him at home and she can’t let him make this sacrifice. He says he’ll go to the press and she says he will create a small scandal, his life will be ruined and SOC and Baker will reform themselves and start over. He reminds her they killed her husband.

Sophia says she can’t allow them to kill her country too. Odelle goes into town asking for Aslam. She goes to the girl’s house and finds him watching soccer with the girl. She says she was worried when he didn’t come home and Naima’s father asks what’s going on. Aslam says he made plans and says Azziz offered him a job as a brickmaker. Her father says Aslam will have a place to stay and a job. He says he’s leaving tonight and Odelle asks if he was going to tell her.

Aslam says no because it was his decision. Naima’s father says the boy will do well in Libya and says he was his age when he started working. She asks if he cut the wires to the plane so he wouldn’t have to go back and he says no and she says she understands and says she wants him to know how much he means to her before he leaves. She says she owes him her life and says he’s a man now and can make his own choices. He says not her and not Luc. He says this is what he wants.

Aslam says she didn’t give him a choice and didn’t even ask him. She says he’s right. She asks him to come with her but Aslam says he doesn’t know and doesn’t like it. Odelle tells him she will miss him. He asks when he boat is leaving. Jennifer Wachtel sees Peter and says she understands he’s not at the firm anymore then asks if he was visiting Sophia. She asks if it was business or pleasure. She says she knows about his allegations against SOC and Alex.

She says he has no evidence and it sounds like malicious prosecution. She tells him to take his car where he wants to go and says to consider it part of his severance. He gets into the car. Odelle finds Luc at the beach and says Aslam is going to Libya to make bricks. Luc is surprised. He says that was not what he expected her to say. He says Aslam is smart and says he knows better than to go to America where she’s wanted and where she will be killed.

Luc says once they know she’s alive they will never stop hunting her. He tells her that her family is safe while she’s not near them. Odelle says she can’t stay dead forever. He asks if that’s it and she says she know he broke the plane and asks what he wants her to say. She says they’ve been through a lot together and says there’s a connection. He grabs her face and kisses her. She relents and kisses back. Then he stops kissing her and she starts to cry. He walks away. She wipes her eyes and stares at the ocean.

Aslam walks the beach with Naima who tells him that he wouldn’t be happy in America and says he will have a good job in Libya. He sees Odelle there. Naima says no one in America speaks Arabic and he says Odelle does. Naima strips to her bikini and asks him to swim with her but he says he can’t swim. He looks at her and the crashing water and then Naima its her head on the rocks. He calls out to Odelle and asks her to come help. Odelle runs over.

He says Naima is in the water and she runs out to the waves. Naima is being tumbled by the waves and is floating face down. Odelle goes out and grabs the girl. She hauls her into shore. The locals gather around. They carry her to shore and Odelle starts CPR on the girl. The locals watch her work. Finalyl, Naima chokes up water and breathes. Odelle tells her she’s okay. A woman from the beach says she recognizes her as Odelle Ballard and she snaps a photo of her and tweets it.

Odelle asks where she sent it and she says on Twitter, everywhere. Odelle throws her phone in the sand and walks off. Bob has the key generator but is still struggling. Harrison’s phone chimes several times and Bob says he needs to check the phone then he notices Harrison’s arm is bleeding through the bandages. Harrison comes back in and shows him a photo of Odelle on the beach. They’re stunned. Harrison smiles and says – Odelle lives.

Luc says it’s out everywhere and Aslam says it’s his fault but Odelle reassures him. Luc, Odelle and Aslam get into his boat and head out to see. He asks Aslam if he wants to go to Libya or America the home of fat children and cronuts. Odelle says they have to respect his decision. They meet a larger boat out on the water. Odelle thanks Luc and they hug. She cries as he holds her. Aslam is tearing up too. Luc tells her – in another life and she agrees. She hugs Aslam and tells him to take care.

She tells the boy she will miss him so much and tells him to be brave. She gets onto the other boat and She wishes them good luck. Luc is ready to cast off but them Aslam hops onto the boat with her. He says he’s going and Luc asks if he’s joking. Odelle is thrilled. She tells Aslam she’s so happy. Luc tells them they know where to find him if they change their minds. He takes off on his boat. Harrison tells Bob the photo is legit and a German tourist took it in Algeria.

He sends the photo to Peter who gets a big smile on his face and changes the course of which way he was walking. Suzanne and Ron talk about memories of Odelle and how they’ll preserve them. Ron says she must always remember that her mother loved her. Suzanne talks about when her mom dressed as Santa and says she was too skinny for the costume. Her dad says it was a good day. He tells her goodnight. He turns off the light and leaves and then Suzanne’s phone chimes.

She gets out of bed and looks at her dad who is also looking at his tablet. Suzanne smiles – her mom is alive. Colonel Glenn makes a call about Odelle and he’s somehow found out that she’s in Spain and says he’s on the way!
