Wallis parks in a garage and makes a call to his wife but gets voice mail. He says it’s over and is on her head bitch. Then he throws his phone off the parking deck and stands on the edge. He’s ready to jump when he sees a skeleton below and then almost falls in terror. He screams for help. Bones tells Max he can’t just break his plans with Christine. He says he has to go out of town but won’t talk about it. She says he’s lying and asks if he’s in trouble. She tells him to just go do whatever he’s hiding.

She gets a call for work and leaves with her daughter. Wendell is with his GF and she says they’re running late. He thought they had ore time because her grandmother’s clock runs slow. He tries to wind it and then breaks it. He says he’ll get it cleaned for her and she takes off. He’s in a panic. Booth asks Bones why she’s so quiet and she says it’s her dad. She says he broke plans with Christine and is abandoning her. She says he’s going out of town. Booth asks where and she says he wouldn’t say.

Bones says that’s never a good thing with him but he says not to jump to conclusions. He says there could be an innocent explanation then says he’s probably up to something. They arrive at the parking deck and Booth offers to put a tracker on her dad. She says that sounds good. They bring up the body and it’s dripping. Camille says the birds did a job on them all and Hodgins says to put masks on because bird droppings are toxic.

Camille says it’s been three awhile and Bones says it’s a male in the mid 30s and Booth checks out the jump site. They tell him about 7 or 8 days. Booth shows them some blood on the railing and they think it’s likely not a suicide. Hodgins is lowered to check out the site but the winch jams and he’s left dangling. Booth calls him bug boy and says to have a nice hang. Booth and Bones leave. Back at the lab, they check out the body and they talk about the bones being eaten away by the bird poop.

Angela is grossed out and Bones says they need the bird guano off ASAP. Wendell points out some thickened ligaments around the right wrist. Camille finds a chunk of liver and then Bones points out an entry wound that looks like a rifle shot that blew the face off. Aubrey tells Booth that Camille found beta blockers and they wonder why a guy that young was taking heart meds. Booth says maybe he’s a contract killer since they take beta blockers to steady their hands.

Aubrey has stuff from their pockets and there’s a notebook that looks like a secret code. Aubrey sees a paper and asks if Booth is tracking Bones’ dad. He tells him to step away. Wendell says he fond screws in the left elbow. He says that fracture is extremely rare and Angela is researching surgical patients. Wendell asks if Hodgins knows about clocks and says Andy’s grandma left her a clock and he wants to get it fixed but it’s too expensive. He agrees to help.

Angela says she found it’s Troy Carter from the surgery records. They bring in his brother Jake and tell him that Troy was shot. Aubrey says his brother was a marksman but Jake says he took them for golf and says it steadied his hands. He says he’s a pro and Aubrey says the PGA wouldn’t like that but Jake says it’s mini-golf. He says Troy was obsessed with it and was going to quit their landscape business to pursue it full time.

Aubrey is shocked and Jake says there’s not that much money in it but says the other mini golfers may have killed him. He says they’re getting ready for the mini Masters and says the purse is just $2k. He tells him where the match is being played and says his brother could have easily won. Booth says he tracked Max to Ohio before the device stopped which means he may have found it. They head to the mini golf course to look for suspects. Bones says the sport seems to have some serious players.

They see one guy raging and beating a Tiki god. It’s Eric, one of the player’s dads. Sammy, the owner, tells them they need to step back but Booth says Troy is dead and there’s a little murmur of surprise but then a woman tells Booth to move his ass and get out of her shot. Sammy asks how Troy died and they tell him he was shot in the head. Sammy’s wife Lori says they invested heavily in Troy. Lori says she’s invested her modeling money in it and Booth is surprised but Bones says she’s a hand model.

Lori says Winston Scruggs is the likely killer since he had it in for Troy. They aren’t likely suspects since they were counting on him to win the Masters. Hodgins checks out the clock while Wendell says he founds some striations on the clavicle and rib but they were post-mortem. Hodgins pulls the panel of the clock off and parts spring ot. Sammy says Winston was a former big size golf pro who sucked and turned to mini-golf.

Booth takes his notebook and says it looks like the notes they found on Troy. Bones uses his notes to sink a hole in one and he says the game is all physics. Winston rants at them and says it’s the most important game of his career. They tell him that Troy is dead and he says they’re rivals. Bones looks around with a black light. Bones calls Booth over and says she found blood in the tiki hut. Booth goes over and she says brain matter and bone chips. She says someone tried to clean it up. She wants to bring the tiki hut back to the lab but Sammy says no. Booth says too bad.

Back at the lab, they go over the tiki hut and Hodgins says someone cleaned up the bullets. Camille shows Bones stitches from the eyebrow and says it was common thread. She also found Hepatitis B and yellow fever antibodies. Booth calls and says the Ohio state police picked up Max for grave robbing. He says he dug up Marvin Barlow who was on the 10 most wanted list and the FBI didn’t even know he was dead. He says Max is being shipped back to the FBI.

Angela says Troy was talking to Darla Simms and it was steamy. Aubrey says Darla is a mini golfer who’s only 18 and she’s the one with the crazy dad Eric. They bring Eric in and Booth asks him about his temper. He says he’s trying to make something of his daughter’s life. He says he had no motive to hurt Troy and says Darla was only flirting with Troy. Booth says he understands it but Eric shuts down and says he wants a lawyer.

Then they bring in Darla and she tells Aubrey that her dad didn’t know. She says when Troy played mini golf, it was pure magic. He tells her someone beat him up and she says she was there. She says they were at a motel in bed and some guy she didn’t know came in and dragged him out, beat him and stuffed him into his truck. He asks why she didn’t tell anyone and says she had no one to tell. Hodgins works on the clock and says some of the pieces are bent and rusted. Wendell is panicking.

Wendell says he broke the clock and Andy is going to kill him. Hodgins says he should play the cancer card. Bones chews her dad out for grave robbing. Max says he had to make sure it was Barlow but tells Bones she doesn’t need to know. Bones demands to know what’s going on and says she has to protect Christine. She says her child isn’t safe with him and storms out. They bring Jake, Tony’s brother, back in and Aubrey says he knows he had a nasty fight with his brother.

Aubrey says there was a witness and she described it. Jake says he knew what Darla’s father was like and was trying to protect him. Aubrey says Troy was bad for his business and says they looked into his company financials. Jake says it’s just a slump and Aubrey asks if he owns a rifle and says they’ll be taking that with the warrant as well. Hodgins is working on the clock while they wait for bones to clean. Hodgins says he’s done and hands Wendell the key to wind it. He’s nervous.

He winds it and nothing happens. Hodgins says to wind it more but he says that’s how it broke before. They hear a clunk and Wendell says he broke it again. Hodgins shows him a replacement clock he found on Craigslist for $9. Wendell says he can’t swap clocks since it has nicks on it and says they’ll notice. Hodgins says they can put the guts from the one into her grandma’s and Wendell is happy with that solution. They check the bones and Wendell says he found bullet wounds.

Angela runs a computer model and they see three gunshot wounds and she says it looks like four different angles and maybe four shooters. Bones tells Booth none of this makes sense. She shows him that the bullet hits make no sense. He thinks she’s focused on her dad and tells her to call him but she says Max’s car isn’t at his apartment and he’s not answering his phone. Bones shows him the angles and he says it can be a multiple impact bullet and shows her a video.

Angela makes a reenactment and says the killer shot him in the chest with that type of bullet then Troy ran into the tiki hut and hid and then shot him through the window. Aubrey says this is new ammo so they should be able to trace it easily. Aubrey says Sammy bought the ammo and says he found out Troy was heading to South Africa to play in a world championship there for a $20k purse. They bring in Sammy and tell him they found a murder weapon. He says he didn’t kill anyone.

Booth says they found the special ammo and Sammy says Troy was his friend. Aubrey says Troy was headed to South Africa to play mini golf there. Sammy says that’s not right and says he was going to South Africa with him. He says he was paying for the trip and has receipts to prove it. He says Troy was his best friend and he wishes he had been shot instead of him. Bones asks Wendell about the stain on the bone that he thought was blood.

Bones says the clock issue shouldn’t take up work time and says he needs to work on impressing her. He takes part of the bone to Hodgins and part to Camille. He says it’s not blood and says it’s red nail polish and Camille comes in and says the fragment was a nail. They bring Lori in and tell her they know it was her. Lori says that’s ridiculous but Bones says they found part of her fingernail on the body that she left when she pulled the kevlar off the bullet.

Lori says it was self-defense and says Troy attacked her life. She says he stole her husband and all she is are hands that pay for their fun. She says Sammy came home drunk and said he was running off to South Africa with Troy. She says it was self-defense of her life and she asks if she can just get community service. She’s shocked that it’s considered a real crime. Kind of clueless. (Lori is played by Arden Myrin who is adorable!)

Wendell tells Andy he accidentally broke the clock then says he got it fixed. She says the clock never worked and says it stopped working after her grandpa died. She laughs and says he must heave freaked. He says it works now and says he can re-break it if she wants. Andy says it’s their clock now marking their time together. He says Wendell and Andy time and kisses her. Booth comes home with Max and Bones isn’t happy to see him. She asks why he’s there.

Max says he can talk to her now and Booth says to give him a chance. Max says he had to go take something from the coroner’s office and hands her a ring. She remembers it and says she lost it when she was little. He says Barlow stole it when she was asleep and told Max it was proof he could kill her at any time. Max says he couldn’t tell her about it. He says that’s why he left them because Barlow would have hurt her. He says he came back when Barlow disappeared.

Bones says she wishes it still fit since she loved that ring. Max tells her he’s so sorry but knows she can’t forgive him. Christine comes in and runs up to her granpda and asks if he’s staying for dinner and Bones hands her the ring and says her grandpa brought her a present. They all sit down to a nice family dinner.
