#Complications begins with Gretchen and Jed pulling up in front of Hillary’s place. He pops a pill before they get out of the car and he says she should have let him bring his gun. She tells Jed to just stand there and look scary while they deal with Seth. She tells the guy it’s moving day and they’re there to get her stuff. He tells her Hillary can come get it herself and pulls the gun and says he makes the rules. Jed flips out and charges the guy and grabs him and shoves him inside.

Gretchen screams at him to stop. He breaks Seth’s finger and takes the gun and Gretchen says he was just supposed to stand there. Gretchen tells Seth to stay put and keep his mouth shut. She goes to pack up Hillary’s car with all her stuff. Jed asks Gretchen if she’s almost done. Seth tells Gretchen that’s his suitcase and she calls it an asshole tax. Seth starts to come at them and Jed puts the gun on him. Seth tells her that this is not his fault then asks why Hillary apologized to him.

He says Hillary was on her knees begging him to forgive her like she always does. Gretchen hits him with something and he goes into the glass coffee table. She’s shocked that it went that badly so quickly. Gretchen tells John the guy isn’t dying but it’s messy and mentions Jed who John doesn’t know. John tells Sam he has to get to his appointment and he rushes out. She asks him to grab milk on the way home. Gretchen triages Seth and tells him to wake up. She says he doesn’t get to die on her.

She smacks him in the face until he comes to groggily. John shows up and Gretchen says things got out of hand. Gretchen says he’s in and out but the wounds are superficial. John says his airway is blocked and says he’s bleeding into his throat. Jed freaks and says he’s on probation and can’t go back to jail. He tells Seth not to bite him then shoves his fingers into his mouth. He grabs out a clot and Seth starts breathing. John rolls him over and tells Gretchen she has to call 911.

She says he’s medical and to give him attention. Gretchen says Seth got what’s coming to him and John says he almost died. Gretchen says that he can’t want Seth to talk to the cops after what they did and says they’ll both go to jail. John says he can’t cover up a crime and Gretchen says he’s the one with a meeting with a gang member and tells him to do the smart thing. John groans and holds his head for a minute then agrees. He says no hospital for now. He says he’ll be back in a bit.

Gretchen says she’ll talk to Seth when he comes to and John says not make it any worse. At the hospital, Dr Bridget O’Neill is told that Virginia Maxson is looking for her – Henry’s sister. She thinks about the code blue on Henry after she told him she had to take his foot and he OD’d. She says she was told Henry had no family but the nurse says she told her they were close. Virginia says she got a death notice and says there are bills for surgery and his death and Bridget offers to talk to billing.

Virginia says that’s not the issue and wanted to know if the death notice could have been an error. Bridget says she’s sorry but Henry is definitely dead. Virginia cries and says she was hoping it was a mistake then asks how he died. Bridget says he took some pills that belonged to someone else while he waiting to be transferred for foot amputation. She says the pills put him into respiratory failure. Virginia asks how she missed that and Bridget says they did everything they could.

Virginia rants and says he took pills under her care and she didn’t even notice. She gets angry and says that was not all they could do. She walks away livid. Sam talks to work then answers the door. It’s Gary, her father in law, who mentions the cop presence. She says she needs the back door fixed before the security company can install the alarm. He asks if John is okay with him being there and she says he has to be since he didn’t fix it.

Seth wakes and Gretchen says they need to talk. Jed says this is a disaster and Gretchen says to stop making her anxious. He gets a call from work and she tells him to be cool. He tells Tim he’s sorry for not being there and says he’s sick with the latest bug going around. He says he’s sorry and says he’ll be in tomorrow. He says there is some patients records issue and an ER doc is looking around. She says they stole records and says he needs to take Hillary’s car, go to work and cover their butts.

She says to stop and take a shower then go in and play sick but cover it. She says they need to try and not go to jail today. John shows up to meet Darius at the diner. He tells John he’s late. He thanks him for waiting and asks if they can make it short. He says he’s done and Darius says he needs to talk to Easy to his face and says they have to leave now to make visiting hours. John tries to say no and says he’s in the middle of an emergency. Darius says to deal with it later, you don’t keep Easy waiting.

Darius runs a red light to get them there on time and says it’s not his fault they put the prison on the wrong side of time. Darius asks how much doctors make and says bio was his sh*t in college but he couldn’t stay in school. He asks how John ended up a doctor and John says he wanted to help people but Darius says he already has too many people to help. John gets a call and says it’s a work call he has to take. It’s Bridget who says Henry’s sister just came by and is upset.

She asks how Henry was issued a notice of transfer and a death notice. John says he doesn’t know how both were issued and says it was crazy. She ends the call then rants to Harper that this is all John’s fault. Gary and Oliver fix the door then Sam gets a call from Kyle and she thanks him for the police presence. He says he’s there for her then jokes his body is a lethal weapon if she needs him for protection. She laughs and he says he was thinking about what she’s going through.

He says he wanted to take care of her and be there. Gary asks Oliver if it was scary with the burglars and he says he was hiding and was just worried about his dad. Gary asks didn’t his dad just yell at them to run them off but Ollie says it sounded like they were just talking. Sam comes in and asks how the repair is going. Gretchen lurks at the house and looks at photos of Seth with Hillary. He wakes and says his head hurts. She says they need to have a conversation.

He says he wants to go to the hospital and she says they can’t go until he decides what he’s going to tell them. He says he’s going to tell them she smashed his face. She says that’s no good. Jed calls Gretchen and says they’re screwed. He says Bridget is poking around about a transfer order and a death certificate and says they’re looking into everything from last week. He says they will notice the records they stole. She says to get in there and cover. He says if Wes submits the Medicare claims, they’re screwed.

Gretchen calls Wes Fletcher and gets his voice mail. She leaves a message saying to call her back now. At the prison, Darius and John wait and he fidgets and asks how much longer. Darius says they’re on prison time and it moves at their pace. A guard nods at John and takes him back to see Easy. He talks to him at a table in the yard. Easy asks what he has to say and John says they need to talk about Antoine and his involvement with him. John says he’s safe but now this has to stop.

John says he can’t and won’t be part of people getting shot over this. Easy says he knows he has a 10 year old and is asking father to father for him to look after him. John says he works at a different hospital and physically can’t be there. John talks about how he had a vicious dog that loved him and then loved Antoine as a baby. He says then Antoine had an allergic reaction. He says he came home from the hospital and the dog ran up to him and he put a bullet in his head.

He tells John his boy is everything to him. He says the man who helps his boy is his brother and the man who doesn’t, he doesn’t want to be him. He says Antoine is his responsibility until he tells John otherwise. He makes the threat then walks off. John is stressed out. Darius drives John back form the prison and asks if he and Easy are straight. John says he made it clear he’s supposed to take care of his son. Darius says he gave him the job of making sure nothing interferes with his ability to do that.

Darius asks what medical emergency he’s dealing with in street clothes, on his day off with blood on his shirt. John says he doesn’t have to worry about it but Darius says he is and says CJ can tag along and help him out. John says he’s trying to resolve a situation quietly and can’t do it with CJ around. Darius says he can’t draw any heat and can’t have any distractions. He says if he can’t resolve it, he and CJ are plan B whether he wants them or not. John says he gets it.

Jed calls Gretchen and says he got rid of the records but says if Wes bills Medicare, they’re screwed. She’s at Wes’ place and he’s got his headphones on and doesn’t hear her banging. She beats on the door and he doesn’t notice so she breaks the glass and shocks him. He asks what the hell and she asks if he billed yet. He says he was just about to and she says he’s about to get them arrested. She says the hospital is looking into irregular things right now.

Wes says she’s being paranoid. He says she was desperate for cash and can’t get cold feet. She throws his laptop in the aquarium and says she’s in trouble. Bridget goes to complain to the chief Dr Benoit about John. Benoit says this sounds like it’s more about the patient she lost than John. She tells her she had a patient hang himself once but she says a woman was billed for a dead man’s transfer and she tells Bridget she’s deputy chief and she can pursue it but says John is her friend.

Bridget says she just wants to do her job. John speeds back to Hillary’s place and goes in calling for Gretchen. She’s not there and Seth is not on the couch which is covered in blood. He hears him calling for help and he goes toward the sound of the voice. He finds him tied up where Gretchen left him. He unties him and says he needs to look at his hand. He shoots Seth’s hand with some lidocaine as Gretchen shows up. She tells Seth to shut up and he says she’s trying to kill him.

Seth screams she’s going to jail for this and she calls him an abusive prick. John says she tied him up so tight he’s got compartment syndrome. She says if he loses his hand he can’t hit another woman. He rants and says she’s a nightmare. He hears no sounds and sees that Seth cut himself loose and is making a run for it. He cranks the car and John tells him he’s in no condition to drive. He scrapes by John’s SUV and speeds away. Gretchen tells John they have to go.

Gretchen asks why he cut him loose and he says the guy couldn’t walk. Seth drives into some other cars and she tells John to run him off the road or something. Seth almost hits a car backing out and then they almost do too. She spots him speeding and he plows into a fence then veers off the side of the road. He loses control of the car and plunges offroad and into a tree. They stop the car and go check on him. He’s trapped in the car and Gretchen says they have to go.

John says he has to try and save his life. John tells Seth he can’t talk to anyone about him. He shows him a photo of the dead gang banger and says he’s working for dangerous people. He says if he interferes with what he has to do for him, they will kill them all. He asks if Seth understands and he says he does. John peels off a bandage and says to tell him all the injuries are from the car crash. He and Gretchen take off and leave him for the ambulance to find.

They see the police car and ambulance pass them as they drive away. Seth is put on a stretcher and taken away. Gretchen waits in the parking deck for Hillary with her car and stuff. John dumps his bloody shirt in a convenience store trash can and grabs the milk Sam wanted. Gretchen goes home and gets a hug from her honey. The cops wait outside the house as John heads home. He finds Gary there playing cards with Sam and Ollie.

Sam says she called Gary to fix the door because the repair people couldn’t get there until next week. Ollie says he helped and John thanks his dad. Gary says grandpa has to go and tells Sam bye. John offers to walk him out. Outside, Gary says he looks beat and asks what’s up but John says he’s fine. He says he’s had some trouble sleeping and says it’s adjustment disorder. He points out the scrape and John says someone must have clipped him at the hospital.

Gary doesn’t buy it and asks him to talk to him. He says he wishes he got cleaner sooner and says he knows that day aat Becky’s memorial was bad and says he knows he has a record of being a prick. But he tells John if he’s in trouble, he’s family. He pats him on the arm then leaves. At work, John is on day shift and find Harper there. He says he would have smashed up the waiting room sooner if he knew it would get him on day shift.

Harper says LaToya briefed them and said not to be weird with him so he says it probably will be. John treats a boy with a broken arm and says sometimes a break can make you stronger and says to watch out for superpowers. John hears Bridget talking about the Ansley mess with Henry. He says he’ll sort it out and she says she wants some answers tomorrow. John approaches Gretchen and asks to talk to her. She says they’re done, remember, and says she can’t help with his problem. She says to get someone else or fix it his GD self.
