Hayden Panettiere Rehab for Postpartum Depression: “Nashville” Star Seeking Treatment

“Nashville” star Hayden Panettiere is headed to rehab. She is seeking treatment for postpartum depression and voluntarily decided to seek professional help. Hayden gave birth to her daughter Kayla in December 2014 – and she’s been struggling with depression ever since.

Panettiere’s representative confirmed the actress has checked into a facility for help in dealing with postpartum depression. Us Weekly got the scoop on October 13 – “Hayden Panettiere is voluntarily seeking professional help at a treatment center as she is currently battling postpartum depression. She asks that the media respect her privacy during this time.”

On October 8 Hayden tweeted a photo of herself with the statement, “Feeling like I’m #finally coming back in to my own body! Mother #daughter #blessing #wellworthit @bonesthenskin.” In the photo Hayden is not smiling and doesn’t look happy at all. It doesn’t take an expert to see the signs of postpartum depression written all over her face.

Hayden hasn’t been shy about sharing her experiences dealing with depression after having a baby. During an appearance on “Live! With Kelly and Michael” last month she shared her story hoping it would help other women know that they are not alone and that this type of depression is very real – and very common.

At the time Hayden Panettiere said she wasn’t experiencing the most serious symptoms women sometimes feel after giving birth – which can include feeling as if you want to hurt yourself or your child. During the interview Hayden said, “You don’t realize how broad of a spectrum you can really experience that on. It’s something that needs to be talked about.” Juliette Barnes, Hayden’s character on “Nashville” is suffering from the most extreme postpartum depression.

It is very brave of Hayden to share her story and admit she needs professional help. When she comes home from treatment she will be a better mother to her little girl – and continue to hopefully will continue to champion mental health issues women go through after having a baby.
