Kate Middleton Labor Due Date Update: Police and Sniffer Dogs Spotted Outside St. Mary’s Hospital - Princess On The Way?

It looks like this could be it, folks. Kate Middleton may be in labor. According to reports, police have increased their presence and sniffer dogs have been spotted outside the Lindo Wing of St. Mary’s in Paddington. In preparation for the birth of the royal baby, the hospital has ramped up its safety and security precautions considerably. Us Weekly interviewed Ken Wharfe, the former head of security for Kensington Palace and a close friend of the late Princess Diana. Wharfe noted that there will be “exhaustive” security checks at St. Mary’s and that it really is “like a fortress there when a royal is inside.” Kate will reportedly give birth on an upper level so that should provide one more layer of security. Anyone who enters on the ground floor will naturally be thoroughly verified.

There was quite a media circus when Prince George was born and the royal family is likely hoping that things will go a little more smoothly this time around. The increased security may help the royals tame the crowd and prevent any nut jobs from causing chaos. Wharfe said that Kate Middleton and Prince William will be adding several security members to their personal team after the birth of royal baby number two. Wharfe indicated that Prince William and Kate will probably have six to eight for themselves along with an additional two that are “solely responsible for the protection of George.” They should add yet another member to the security team when the latest royal baby is born. We could be looking at 11 people who are keeping a watchful eye on Kate, Prince William and their brood.

Of course, Prince William and the Duchess of Cambridge have plenty of resources if a threat should arise. Additional security will be available if they need it. Bottom line, the royals aren’t taking any chances. Wharfe noted that “given the day-to-day publicity of the royal family…it does bring interest for some factions of society that could and would wish to bring harm to them.” Let’s hope Kate can bring her second child home safely.
