Everybody thinks that Kanye West’s career as a fashion designer is a joke, including fashion publicist [and founder of People’s Revolution] and ANTM judge Kelly Cutrone. Cutrone has been openly dismissive of Kanye’s fashion aspirations in the past, and she makes no effort to hide it.
In fact, when asked about Kanye’s recent New York Fashion Week Adidas show, Kelly replied, “I think he’s fine as a rapper. I think he’s a joke as a fashion designer. I mean, it’s not, he’s not legit. Have you seen the product? Didn’t he have his own line in London, which was a disaster that he spent $10 million to do, that no one wore?”
Ouch, burn. Kanye’s getting a taste of his medicine right now, isn’t he? Of course, if anyone confronts him with Kelly’s words, he’ll spend an entire day going on the radio and ranting and raving about her. In Kanye West’s mind, he is a genius who can do anything and everything he ever sets his mind to, no matter how complicated or how ridiculous. Plus, Kanye does have some clout in the fashion world, which has obviously allowed him to get this far. For one, he and Kim Kardashian would never have landed that Vogue cover without said connections, and fortunately for him, these connections don’t seem to care that he’s a ‘joke’ as a fashion designer.
What do you guys think about Kelly Cutrone calling Kanye West a ‘joke’ as a fashion designer? Is that a fair diss, considering Kanye’s relative inexperience designing anything? Or should everyone be given a chance to pursue their passion? I mean, Kanye West is supposedly a genius at everything, according to him.
