Madi Davis has been voted off The Voice. She will not move on to the Season 9 finals. Up until the semi-finals results show, Madi has been solidly safe thanks to fan’s votes but that didn’t hold true for the next stage and Madi Davis was eliminated from The Voice.
For the semi-finals episode, Madi chose throwback pop song “Big Girls Don’t Cry” and she did an admirable job, but the scale of the props seemed to dwarf her performance. It looked like a big Broadway number which is fine – but that took away from her perfect vocals.
In past weeks, Madi has been safe from Instant Save competitions and seemed like she was doing fine, but as the competition intensifies, there’s just a higher level of talent. This season has had some shockingly good performances.
It’s fair to say that no one, not even the judges, thought she could win Season 9 and so when Madi Davis was voted off The Voice, it wasn’t a stunning result. She did land on the number four slot on iTunes overnight, but it just wasn’t enough to keep her on hand.
Madi is another artist that has a fascinating back story. She had hearing loss as a young child and then had surgery to correct it and went on to develop a love for music and has performed as far away as Paris with a children’s choir.
The homeschooled teen has had a funky indie pop edge throughout the competition that has drawn praise from all the judges. With Madi Davis eliminated, that means Team Pharrell is out of the competition and he will not be winning again this year.
Her Instant Save song was “Don’t Dream It’s Over” by Crowded House but the performance was plagued with nerves and was just not up to par and not as good as her usual performances. She was up against Zach Seabaugh and Jeffery Austin who both did much better jobs in the high-stress Instant Save tonight.
You’ll recall last year that Pharrell Williams was the winning coach with Sawyer Fredericks, but this year he’s lost one artist after another and Madi Davis was his last hope for a two-year winning streak. Hopefully, a label will nab Madi and we’ll hear more from her in the future after being voted off The Voice.
