Nina Dobrev Preferred to Ian Somerhalder on ‘The Vampire Diaries’ Set: Co-Stars Tired of Self-Important Diva Behaviour?

Nina Dobrev’s friendliness was preferred to Ian Somerhalder’s diva behavior on ‘The Vampire Diaries’ set. Nina Dobrev is greatly missed by co-workers on TVD. Are Ian’s co-stars tired of his self-important diva antics? According to reports Somerhalder’s love of the spotlight might be causing some friction, and without Dobrev’s presence to keep Ian in check, it’s becoming a problem.

Ian recently tried to keep things light in an interview with Variety, but basically he admitted that he enjoyed the fact that Nina Dobrev quit ‘The Vampire Diaries’ because it puts the focus on his character. Translation – Ian Somerhalder gets more time in the spotlight.

“I personally think everyone thought it was going to be a huge departure after Elena (Nina Dobrev) was gone,” Ian admitted. “And I was one of those people. I thought it was going to be a huge departure for the typical formula of our show.

By virtue of the fact that it wasn’t a huge leap for mankind, as far as changing it up, there were some differences that sort of mixed up the formula. I just started shooting episode 10, which is a concept episode. The episode was really about Damon, but that’s not why I think it was the best at all. The way the story was put together … every artisan from set to producers to wardrobe to everyone was just so on-point.”

While he tried to be PC, his words rang true to his costars. Since Nina left TVD, everyone was wondering how the show would survive. The answer for Somerhalder seems to be focusing on his character, Damon.

Paul Wesley, hinted at the fact that the show should survive on teamwork versus a singular character during an interview with Collider saying, “They (Damon and Stefan) should be teaming up and fighting the negative outside forces. There’s no room for them to be at odds with each other. There’s just no room for either one of them to be the villain.”

Basically, Paul wants to make sure the show is about both the brothers and not just Damon. Wesley went on to elaborate, “I think people really enjoy it when the brothers are comparable to the guys on Supernatural: buddy up and fight bad guys!”
