Outlander Caitriona Balfe and Sam Heughan: Season 2 Brings Off-Screen Dating and Romance?

Caitriona Balfe and Sam Heughan have so much chemistry on-screen in their Starz hit Outlander that fans are clamoring to see them fall in love in real life. While it’s pretty obvious the Outlander stars are definitely great friends, if love is in the air, Caitriona and Sam are definitely playing coy.

Season 2 of Outlander is due out in Spring 2016. As the start of the new Outlander season approaches, we’re starting to see more and more promotion for the hit Starz series. This has fans clamoring to see if their favorite characters have moved their love off-camera in the off-season.

In December, MTV named Claire and Jamie Fraser of Outlander the best TV Couple of 2015. MTV described the on-screen chemistry, saying, “Their passion comes from genuine, mature love, and we love them.” It has to be that ease around each other that has many believing Balfe and Heughan must be seeing each other secretly off-camera as well.

For those who enjoy a little sleuthing, we took a long look at the social media accounts for both Caitriona and Sam. On Christmas Day, Balfe tweeted a message out to her Outlander co-stars that read, “Happy Christmas telehubbies @SamHeughan @TobiasMenzies and wannabe @grahammctavish.” Did Caitriona wish all her past and current Outlander love interests well to detract from a possible romance with Heughan?

Even if the Outlander stars aren’t secretly dating, there definitely is an attraction between them and it’s obvious no matter how hard Sam and Caitriona try to play it casual Balfe very actively retweets and responds to things that Heughan posts on Twitter. On the other hand, Sam Heughan doesn’t tend to retweet Caitriona Balfe’s statuses but he does share just about every romantic or suggestive promotional photo for Outlander.

If they are romantically linked off-screen, Caitriona Balfe and Sam Heughan didn’t spend New Year’s Eve together like most couples opt to do. Instead, Sam shared a picture of himself at a bright and likely very noisy fireworks display. Meanwhile, Caitriona shared a picture of her much more peaceful plan to ring in the new year. Balfe posted a picture of the sand and waves, presumably of the beach she was enjoying.

With the People’s Choice Awards coming up and Outlander nominated for Favorite Cable TV Sci-Fi/Fantasy Show, it’s possible we might catch a glimpse of Caitriona Balfe and Sam Heughan. We’re still hoping that the on-screen couple will bring it off-screen and give the fans what they want.
