New General Hospital (GH) spoilers tease that in coming weeks we’ll find out more about who Nelle Hayes (Chloe Lanier) is, the identity of her dead parents, and her close ties to Port Charles. Could it be that Nelle is family to Carly Corinthos (Laura Wright), but from the Eckert side of the family?
If you recall, when Chloe Lanier first came to GH, it was on the 52nd Anniversary special and she played a young Patricia Spencer. We also saw young Bill Eckert at GH with Patricia talking about her mother Lena Spencer and about the abuse she suffered at the hands of awful hubby Tim Spencer.
Chloe Lanier admitted in a recent interview that she had been talking with GH showrunners since that appearance about bringing her onto the show for another part. It makes sense that they would create a character for Chloe that resonated with her first appearance on the ABC soap.
It’s obvious that Nelle is in Port Charles to make trouble. She’s clearly manipulating situations to worm her way closer to Carly. She set up Avery’s nanny to look like a jewelry thief and then staged a phone call to make it appear that she’s lost her job back in Atlanta, where Nelle claims she lives.
The big question that has perplexed GH fans is why was Nelle a match for Josslyn Jacks (Eden McCoy) as a kidney donor. First, she could have been just a random person who happened to be a match and so her parents sold her kidney to deal with their financial problems.
Second, Nelle could be a match for a reason – because she’s got a family tie to the Spencer or Jacks families. It’s not likely that Jax (Ingo Rademacher) would knowingly abandon a child – he’s not a jerk like that. Plus, he paid for the black market kidney, and wouldn’t have bought his own child’s kidney.
Jerry Jacks (Sebastian Roche) would do anything for money, so he’s a possibility. However, Nelle doesn’t have to be a Jacks relation, she could be from the Spencer side of the family. Could Nelle be an Eckert? Jenny Eckert isn’t a likely parent since she’s been with Paul Hornsby (Richard Burgi) all those years.
But Bill Eckert (Anthony Geary) is a possibility. Luke Spencer look-alike Bill was a sketchy guy who was involved with plenty of women, so he could easily have fathered a child and left her behind. Nelle being an Eckert would make her a good candidate to be an organ donor to Josslyn.
As Bill Eckert’s abandoned daughter, Nelle would be a blood cousin to Carly and a strong familial match as a kidney donor. Plus, Bill was not a good guy – so abandoning a child is right up his alley. Both the Spencers and Eckerts have some real jerks hanging off their family tree.
If Nelle is Bill Eckert’s daughter then she has a lot in common with Carly. Since Carly was given up for adoption, she came to Port Charles looking for revenge against her mom Bobbie Spencer (Jacklyn Zeman). As Bill’s daughter, Nelle would have felt the sting of rejection.
But Bill is dead and gone, as we know, so she can’t get revenge against him. The parents that raised her are dead as well. But it would be Nelle’s biological connection to Carly that made her prime to be a kidney donor. Nelle may be in town to take revenge on the family she has left.
She wants payback for her cruddy life and her kidney being taken away that has left her with health issues. This also opens up a path for Nelle to stay in town even when Carly finds out she’s been conned. Carly herself came to Port Charles to run a revenge con and ended up with a pretty sweet life.
