Recent General Hospital (GH) spoilers reveal that GH serial killer Paul Hornsby’s (Richard Burgi) motives will soon unfold so we understand why he’s engaging in a killing spree at the Port Charles hospital. It seems that it all ties back to his daughter Susan Hornsby.
Back in the day, Paul was involved in a takeover scheme of ELQ targeting Tracy Quartermaine (Jane Elliot) but his hand was being forced by Cesar Faison (Anders Hove) and others in a diabolical cartel. To ensure Paul’s cooperation, Cesar targeted Susan.
Cesar infected Susan with a virus. Later in the storyline, Paul got some of the virus sample and took it to Tony Jones (Brad Maule) who developed a cure for Susan’s illness. It seems likely all this will tie into what Paul is doing now as he wreaks havoc at the hospital.
The problem with all of this is that the GH writers began the plot without choosing a villain. So now they’re scrambling to find a motive to explain why Paul was killing random patients at GH.
They are already laying the groundwork for the “retroactive” plot. Remember last week, Paul had lunch with Tracy Quartermaine (Jane Elliot) and their son. When Dillon Quartermaine (Robert Watkins) complained about Paul, his dad went off on him and said:
“You can’t speak for Susan or for Paul junior, because you have no idea how much I love them or how much I love you… as for my ambition — I don’t apologize for it. Because it’s given me the power to accomplish my goals, so I can do whatever’s necessary for my kids.”
It seems the writers are tying this all back to Susan because this isn’t the first time Paul mentioned her recently. Is Susan dead or in an irreversible coma because the virus returned? It’s unlikely Tony developed a “cure” for her virus – no virus has ever been cured – ever.
But what Tony might have done is developed a treatment to keep it dormant. But it could have returned, become active again, and killed Paul’s daughter. With both Tony and the virus sample gone, there would have been no way to develop another treatment.
This would explain why Paul came after Bobbie Spencer (Jacklyn Zeman) if he felt like Tony lied to him about the cure. It also explains why Paul is coming after GH patients. Susan was treated at GH and if the treatment failed, he could hold the hospital responsible.
Paul’s end game may be to shut down GH and ruin the Qs. That also explains why he’s targeting Monica Quartermaine (Leslie Charleson) since she was involved with his storyline back then and runs the hospital now. Paul might come after Tracy before he’s done.
Something has changed in Paul’s life to get him to exact his revenge after all this time. A trauma to Paul’s precious and only daughter Susan would explain it. He would not want his daughter to see him in jail, but if she’s dead, that wouldn’t matter.
Paul has to know that he’ll be caught eventually – unless he has a plan to blame the killings on someone else. He may not care if he’s caught so long as he gets to finish his evil work. General Hospital spoilers tease that Paul has both an agenda and a timeline.
Perhaps he’s planning on things culminating on the anniversary of Susan’s death or some other momentous date. We’ll find out more soon, but for Paul to do all this, there has to be a powerful motivator.
Remember Paul also killed Kyle Sloane (Robb Derringer) over Susan. It seems that Susan is the one person that Paul is willing to kill to avenge, so she could be the key to this whole murder mystery. Share your comments below on why you think Paul is serial killing.
