Gigi Hadid might not be telling the truth about her recent weight loss. Gigi says she recently lost weight because of a thyroid disease. Yet some critics say something simply isn’t adding up, as the disease she has makes patients gain weight rather than lose it.
During an interview with Elle Magazine, the 21-year-old runway model says she’s been battling with her thyroid condition for two years now. Gigi says that her medication is the reason why she’s struggled to keep her weight on.
Gigi told the publication, “My metabolism actually changed like crazy this year. I have Hashimoto’s disease. It’s a thyroid disease, and it’s now been two years since taking the medication for it, so for the VS show I didn’t want to lose any more weight, I just want to have muscles in the right place, and if my butt can get a little perkier, then that’s good.”
Many fans have noticed that Gigi looked noticeably slimmer at the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show in Paris. Gigi was slammed by critics that labeled her as overweight during the New York Fashion Week shows back in September.
Still, Gigi says that she’s not on a special diet and that she doesn’t deny herself any of her guilty pleasures when it comes to food. Yet, both critics and fans alike think the model might not be telling the truth about her health issues. Many point out that patients with hypothyroidism and metabolism issues tend to gain weight rather than lose it. In fact, medical experts say that Hashimoto’s disease causes hypothyroidism, which leads to weight gain. Graves’ disease causes hyperthyroidism, which causes weight loss. If Gigi is telling the truth, then her condition would cause her to gain weight rather than lose it.
Do you think Gigi Hadid is telling the truth? Is her metabolism the reason why she’s lost so much weight in recent months? Some sources say the reason why Gigi lost weight is because she was scared of losing her lucrative modeling contracts. If that weren’t enough, other insiders say that Gigi was pressured to lose weight after being body-shamed on the runway last year.
