Kate Middleton Attends EACH Shop Opening: First Customer As Patron of East Anglia Children’s Hospices Charity

Kate Middleton attended the opening of the new EACH shop on March 18. The Duchess of Cambridge, a patron of the charity East Anglia’s Children’s Hospices which benefits from the proceeds of the shops, was the first customer of the day.

Prince George and Princess Charlotte stayed home at Anmer Hall as Kate drove the short distance to the new shop in the village of Holt. HELLO! reported that the Duchess of Cambridge’s purchases included a copy of Fireman Sam’s Favourite Tales one of Prince George’s best loved storybooks.

A Tom Kitten Beatrix Potter figurine was the next item on Kate purchased from the EACH shop. The figurine was probably for Princess Charlotte.

Unfortunately Kate wasn’t able to get one item Prince George had specifically asked her to purchase. Sarah Throssell, East Anglia Children’s Hospices regional retail manager revealed, “[George] asked [Kate] to look for a helicopter but we hadn’t got any.”

During the tour of the EACH shop Kate met volunteers, supporters and staff. One volunteer from the EACH Long Stratton store spoke with the Duchess of Cambridge about cookbooks. The volunteer revealed, “Kate confessed that she normally bought cookery books in charity shops. ‘They’re the ones I always look out for’ Kate Middleton told the EACH volunteer.

While there Kate learned that there are 21 stores involved in raising funds to support the East Anglia Children’s Hospices and depend on voluntary donations. Also for sale in the stores is crockery designed by Emma Bridgewater. The British artist created the cookware at the request of Kate Middleton.

After browsing through the store and enjoying a chat about handbags and brooches with a young girl, Kate cut the ribbon to officially mark the opening of the new EACH store in Holt.

East Anglia Children’s Hospices provides at-home care and support to over 700 children and young people living with life-threatening illnesses across Cambridgeshire, Essex, Norfolk and Suffolk. There are also three hospices located in Cambridge, Norfolk and Ipswich.
