Michael Weatherly is leaving NCIS after 13 seasons and the fans are falling apart at the seams. The current season will end in April and that is when Tony DiNozzo, Weatherly’s character, will make his dreaded departure from the hit show.
CBS made a statement announcing the sad news,
“After 13 years on NCIS, Michael Weatherly is leaving the show at the end of this season. He is a valued part of the CBS family, and the immense charm and talent he brings to the screen as ‘Very’ Special Agent Tony DiNozzo has helped make NCIS what it is today – the No. 1 drama in the world. We thank Michael for all of his contributions to this successful franchise and look forward to continuing to develop projects him as part of our ongoing development deal.”
So this will be the end of DiNozzo…. but, there is hope! We will get something down the road on another show to give us our fix. After all, it is more that his character on the show that we love so much!
Michael Weatherly is sharing his love for the cast and show on his Twitter page with sentiments like,
“DiNozzo is a wonderful, quixotic character & I couldn’t have had more fun playing him over the past 13 seasons “
And another,
“Les Moonves & CBS gave me the opportunity of a lifetime. “
Lastly,
“I will miss the amazing crew & cast, who are like family to me, & to the fans all over the world – THANK YOU, it’s been a fantastic ride!”
Fans from all over are genuinely heartbroken at the news. When you’re hooked to a show for that many seasons, it’s almost like the characters become part of your family, if not at least like a dear friend. So when they go, it’s like a piece of your life left the air with them. Sad? Yes. But it’s true!
Many avid fans are making statements on Michael Weatherly leaving the show and I would have to say that the top concern is how they are going to “send him off”. Everyone wants it done well. Will they kill him? Have him move away to a far off place?
