Shelley Duvall's Cry For Help: Dr. Phil Exploits Actress's Mental Illness For Ratings?

Shelley Duvall has admitted struggling with mental illness. In a new interview with Dr. Phil, the actress cries out for help. Some are wondering if Dr. Phil is exploiting the actress for ratings. The clips from the interview are heartbreaking. “I’m very sick. I need help,” Duvall tells Dr. Phil. The talk show host tries to reassure Duvall, telling the actress, “Well, that’s why I’m here.”

The actress, best known for her role as Wendy Torrance in the 1980 thriller ‘The Shining,’ revealed that she does not believe ‘Popeye’ co-star Robin Williams is dead. Duvall tells a somber Dr. Phil McGraw that she thinks Robin Williams, who died in August 2014, is shape-shifting and that she has seen him.

Duvall believes the Sheriff of Nottingham poses a threat to her life and tells Dr. Phil McGraw she believes there is a worrying disk inside her body. Shelley Duvall then shows Dr. Phil her leg which appears to be swollen and covered in sores.

The video clip was posted to the Dr. Phil YouTube channel but the comments section was disabled. Does Dr. Phil fears what viewers will say about his interview with Duvall? Does he truly want to help the virtually unrecognizable actress?

Shelley Duvall began a successful acting career in 1970 with her role as Suzanne Davis in ‘Brewster McCloud.’ Throughout the 1970s, Duvall made guest appearances on several hit television series including ‘Love, American Style’ and ‘Baretta.’ Duvall also had a part in the Woody Allen movie ‘Annie Hall.’

Duvall’s big break into show business came in 1980 when she was cast opposite Jack Nicholson in the movie adaptation of the Stephen King horror novel ‘The Shining.’ That same year, she starred as Olive Oyl opposite Robin Williams in ‘Popeye.’

Working steadily throughout the 1980s and 1990s, Duvall returned to television, guest-starring on popular shows such as ‘The Ray Bradbury Theatre,’ ‘L.A. Law,’ and ‘Fraiser.’ Since her role as Detective Dubrinski in the film ‘Manna from Heaven’ in 2002, Shelley Duvall has become a recluse, disappearing from public life.
