Resources were thin on the ground, but the City of New York had thought that their government had finally remembered them in their desperate hour of need when they received some much needed military support on tonight’s episode of “The Strain”.

The U.S. military had apparently sent in highly skilled teams of Navy SEALS that were willing to go down into the now abandoned tunnels/subways that were all over the city and hunt out the Strigoi. But it seems that their “support” also had some rather unfortunate limitations. The SEALS that were brought in had been told about the “Rat King” theory and how there appeared to be one vampire in particular that was leading the invasion. So most of their grunt worker as well as their limited supplies of arsenal that they brought along with them went towards hunting the Master. And, well, that meant that the SEALs couldn’t even offer any sort of help to Councilwoman Justine Feraldo who was still trying to regain territory from the Strigoi.

However, Justine tried to make do without the SEALs. She still had officers and civilians out on the street trying to patrol the city and they had been doing their best to evacuate the more affected areas yet it was hard for people to let go of their homes and it didn’t help that her own people were reporting back that they had also seen Ephraim, a well-known part of her organization, ignoring the evacuation that up for everyone’s safety. So Justine had tried to talk some sense in Ephraim and tell him how dangerous it was for him to be staying on that house only he refused to see sense. Ephraim kept going back to the old house because he had been hoping that one day his son Zach would return and nothing anyone could say was going to make him see how fruitless that was.

Ephraim wanted to believe that his son could return so he made himself believe. Although, thankfully Ephraim did acknowledge the that if such a thing were to happen then his son would most likely return as a Strigoi. So Ephraim was at least being realistic about Zach’s possible return because he often had dreams about what he would do if his son became a bloodsucking monster. And in those dreams, his son’s return was usually followed by him trying to put the small boy down himself though what with his dreaming turning into nightmares there was a few times that Ephraim dreamt Zach was able to get the drop on him instead.

So the pressure that they were all under was beginning to weigh on the few humans that were still in New York. Yet, the city didn’t have as long as everyone believed. Justine had later talked to Ephraim about his bioweapons and it turns out that they weren’t killing with the same efficiency as before although Justine was hiding that fact from her constituents. She naturally didn’t want to alarm anyone or let them know that they weren’t necessarily winning as much as they claimed so she wanted Ephraim to focus on fixing the weapons. And mentioned that at their current casualty rate, that it was no longer a matter of if they fail but when they fail.

And so Justine desperately needed some sign of progress. Either from Ephraim or from the SEALS. But Fet hadn’t been able to offer her any help from the SEALs. Vasiliy Fet had seemingly joined up with the SEALs to help them get a better understanding of the Strigoi hunting patterns and how to navigate New York. So he knew without even asking that they wouldn’t offer Justine any weapons or men yet he had tried to offer Justine some good news by telling her that the SEALs were doing great thing. They had apparently wiped out several large nests in lower Manhattan and Fet truly believed that with all their gear that they had a great chance at killing the Rat King.

His partners on their other hand thought that belief was optimistic. Setrakian was still working on the Occido Lumen and so he didn’t have a lot to say on the matter however Quinlan was different and he had plenty to say about the SEALs. Like how all their little toys wouldn’t be able to stop someone as powerful as the Master. So Quinlan had actually tried to be supportive when he told Fet that he should be called if the military really was getting as close as they thought they were to finding the Matser. However, Fet had ignored him. Fet had been too proud to accept Quinlan’s help because he didn’t want to work with a bloodsucker so he had gone on believing that the SEALs could win back the city right up until they themselves disillusioned him.

The SEALs as it turns out were merely in the city for a few days. Both the government and the military had already written off New York. So the last minute help of the SEALs were just to make the people believe that the city still had a chance, but the truth was that SEALs weren’t even going to be there for long and that if they didn’t find the Master within their timeframe then all bets were off. Yet, the hard truth didn’t throw Fet because he still wanted to help the SEALs and so he did his best to warn them when they came across Eichorst down in the tunnels. Fet had told them that Eichorst was fast, possibly faster than a speeding bullet, and later he also tried to tell them to run when it became clear that Eichorst was now hunting them.

Though he then found himself ignored. The SEALs didn’t see what the big difference was between Eichorst and the other Strigori were so they had ignored Fet’s warnings and literally walked right into the trap that Eichorst set up for them. They followed Eichorst deeper down tunnels they weren’t familiar with and where then blindsided when he and his followers began feeding on them. So Fet had tried to help by going in after them, but the one guy in charge had asked him if he could save the others instead because he had known that his own team wasn’t going to make it out alive. And sadly he had been right.

So Quinlan had been right when he said that SEALs’s toys weren’t going to save them though he and Setrakian still had the lumen book. The Occido Lumen was believed to be the only thing that could destroy the Master and even the Ancient Ones in the New World were frightened about what the book would reveal. However, the book was taking forever to translate and the Master was already making moves to claim it. The Master had enlisted Ephraim’s ex-wife to make a deal with Ephraim. Kelly was to tell him that they were prepared to exchange his son Zach for the book.

THE END!
