Ed Sheeran is the latest celebrity to make a special cameo on ‘Game of Thrones.’ The hit maker will be making an appearance on the HBO fantasy show during Season 7, according to new reports.
‘Game of Thrones’ producers David Benioff and Dan Weiss confirmed the news at the SXSW festival in Texas this past weekend. David Benioff revealed that the show’s producers have been trying to get the British singer to appear on the show for several years now.
Maisie Williams, who plays Arya Stark on the hit fantasy drama, is a huge fan of the ‘Shape of You’ singer. Both David Benioff and Dan Weiss have tried to contact Ed Sheeran for years in order to surprise Maisie. Luckily for her, the producers managed to make it happen for this upcoming season.
Ed also confirmed the news on his social media accounts by writing, ‘Guess the cat’s out of the bag,’ although it’s unclear what kind of role he’ll be playing on the show. Coldplay, Mastodon, Of Monsters and Men, and Sigur Ros have all made musical cameos in the past. Right now no one knows if he’ll be making a musical cameo or if he’ll even be recognizable on the show. Many viewers can recall how members of Mastadon played unrecognizable zombie-like Wildlings on the show.
Just recently, producers of the fantasy drama series revealed the Season 7 premiere date with an elaborate, if not bizarre live stunt. Before the announcement was made, fans had to spend over an hour watching ice melt in a clip that was streamed on a Facebook Live. Many fans couldn’t help but wonder what was going on during the clip as it malfunctioned several times, leaving Facebook users utterly confused.
Tell us, are you surprised that Ed Sheeran will be on ‘Game of Thrones?’ Do you think he’ll be a musical guest or will he have a role on the show? Of course, fans will just have to wait and see this summer.
‘Game of Thrones’ Season 7 returns to HBO on July 16th. Season 8 is expected to debut sometime in 2018. In the meantime, drop us a line with your thoughts and comments below. Also, check back with CDL for all the latest news, updates and spoilers on ‘Game of Thrones’ Season 7 right here!
