General Hospital (GH) spoilers promise there’s a twist coming in the story of Anna Devane (Finola Hughes) and Valentin Cassadine (James Patrick Stuart) as both work to try and figure out why Anna has no memory of betraying him by swapping sex for secret WSB information. On this coming week’s new GH episodes (April 3 – April 7) Anna reveals a secret that will shock Valentin – could it be about her twin, Alex?
The fact that Anna can’t remember sleeping with Valentin isn’t a guarantee that she didn’t do it. First of all, there’s the fact that Anna does remember selling secrets to DVX. General Hospital spoilers claim it’s strange that she remembers part of her traitorous activities but not embroiling Valentin in her scheme.
Looking back at Anna’s history, she went missing for a number of years after she supposedly was blown up by Cesar Faison (Anders Hove). Then Anna was brought to Pine Valley as a character on All My Children. Anna was found by her sister Alexandra “Alex” Devane (also played by Finola Hughes).
All Anna could remember was that she used to be a spy but she had a decade of memories missing. However, the memories in question with Valentin should not be missing from that episode of amnesia since they predate the bomb and resulting memory loss.
Anna and Valentin knew each other from the WSB Academy which pushes it back before Anna’s first appearance in Port Charles in the 80s. The General Hospital writers are definitely tinkering with Anna’s history but at least it’s from a period that wasn’t shown onscreen.
Charlotte Devane, from All My Children, was the head of an evil spy ring. She was believed to be the mother of both Anna and Alex but turned out she wasn’t. Charlotte had stolen Alex as a baby away from her and Anna’s parents. Charlotte brainwashed Alex and twisted her.
There is a lot of messy and twisted history there. Given Charlotte’s work in the spy field, it could be that she was working with DVX. It could also be that Charlotte sent in Alex to pretend to be Anna to sleep with Valentin to get sensitive information from the besotted hunchback.
Charlotte did have a lot of evil plans and at one time even convinced Alex that she was Anna. So, sticking with the character history on All My Children, Alex may have believed she was Anna when she went to Valentin to seduce secrets out of him. General Hospital spoilers say that Alex was never intentionally evil – it was all down to Charlotte messing with her mind.
Valentin was certainly convinced it was Anna and that’s the problem. He’s been holding a grudge against Anna for decades. It does seem strange that Anna would refuse Valentin’s kiss and then take him to bed, but then again, it was strange that Anna was selling secrets.
On a recent GH episode, Anna said she may know what happened and said she needs to take a trip. It could be that Anna will head to Hungary which is where Alex Devane supposedly settled down. If Alex did seduce Valentin on Charlotte’s orders, there’s no reason for her to lie to Anna about it.
Anna learning the truth will help herself out, but it doesn’t change the decades of torment and devastation Valentin has suffered, but perhaps he can start healing if he knows his friend didn’t betray him and both of them were played by a third party. Anna suspected from the start there was another hand in this and it looks like she’s right.
