NCIS:LA begins tonight with Sheldon Rhodes (Blair Hickey) arriving at his RV, when he opens it, the lights flicker and he finds warm beer in his fridge. He looks at the electrical outlet beside the fridge and realizes too late that it’s a bomb.

Sam Hanna (LL Cool J) and G. Callen (Chris O’Donnell) are working out at the gym while Marty Deeks (Eric Christian Olsen) and Kensi Blye (Daniela Ruah) struggle with each other about getting up and heading into work.

In Ops, Callen and Sam learn from Nell Jones (Renee Felice Smith) and Eric Beale (Barrett Foa) about Sheldon Rhode’s explosion. He worked for West Central AeroSpace, an elite group of engineers who are working on a Naval missile destroyer (stealth ships).

Witnesses say it was a sudden and massive explosion, Kensi and Deeks were sent to the Aerospace company by Hetty Lange (Linda Hunt), to speak to his co-workers and friends. Hetty is sending Callen and Sam to the wreckage site, to see if this was accidental or intentional.

Sam finds a soft detonator saying they are only used on film and TV, while the military would use hard ones. Callen asks if he knows who would sell this type; Sam says he doesn’t but he knows someone who does.

Belinda Fujita (Ally Maki) meets with Deeks and Kensi, asking him out on a date right in front of Kensi. He continues flirt with her to get more information. They learn that 5 of the engineers are ready to speak to them while the 2 lead engineers decided to stay home mourning Sheldon.

She begins to cry and runs into Deeks’ arms, he holds her while Kensi goes inside to speak to the engineers. Sam and Callen return to let Hetty know Lincoln Stern (Dylan Kenin) is a friend of the team’s. She says she is going to send Kensi and Deeks to speak to him, while she has other plans for them.

Nell reveals to them that 2 of Rhodes’ lead engineers didn’t come to work, and Aiden Tinker (Kevin Coubal) booked a last minute flight to Tokyo. Hetty believes he is selling the plans for the stealth ship to Tokyo, and she wants both of them on that plane, and they are to follow him to see who is buying those planes. Sam and Callen cannot be there diplomatically, so no gun on the plane nor in Tokyo.

Deeks and Kensi come to meet Sam’s friend, Lincoln Stern. They argue about plans for the weekend, he tells her they have to stay in town because some friends are coming this weekend.

Stern arrives calling them Kensi and Shaggy; when Deeks corrects him, Stern says that is not what Sam said and no one likes to correct Sam. Stern asks what they are offering for his help; Kensi flirts a little and he says he will work for her for free, but wants to know what Shaggy has for him.

Sam gets first class, while Callen is stuck in the back of the plane. As soon as he sat down the man sitting beside him says his name is Big Ron (Jonathan Marballi), who begins talking and even offering chicken. At the coffee shop, Stern is able to tell where the yellow dead cord came from.

Callen notices that Tinker has already headed to the back to use the restrooms. He opens the door to find a dead flight attendant and a gun is pulled on Callen. It turns out to be Air Marshall Miguel Salazar (David Fumero), but they didn’t know that until Eric confirms his identity; they share with him who they are looking for.

Salazar calls the captain who announces for everyone to return to their seats, Callen and Sam return to their seats to see if he reappears while Salazar guards the door. Nell and Eric talk about the situation suggesting he isn’t selling the plans in Tokyo, someone may be trying to steal them from him on the flight.

Deeks and Kensi go to PWX Supplies, where the owner says they won’t get much information other than the 2 suspects were men and they were smart about the camera angles, wearing hoodies. They find out someone across the street has surveillance on their motorbike.

On the flight, Callen and Sam walk down both aisles, where they meet Cheryl (Sara Fletcher). She tells them the Captain Troy Jacobs (Madison Mason) wanted them to know they are 2.1 hours from Los Angeles and 2.5 hours from Honolulu, and wants to know where he is taking the plane.

After he assures them he could turn the plane around without alerting any of the passengers. Cheryl says the passengers are her responsibility and they need to let her know if they are in danger; Sam says he will let her know. She tells them they are on their own for 2 hours. They go down to the cargo hold with Salazar.

Deeks and Kensi are brought up to speed on what is happening with Callen and Sam. Deeks asks why they can’t just get his name off the ticket. Eric explains that he didn’t have a ticket and just then Eric figures out that his partner was sitting across from the woman scanning the tickets. They hacked the ticket scanner at the gate and used tickets for another flight to get past security.

Eric than notices the partner doesn’t leave, and wants to see why he keeps hacking the scanner, they come to realize there are 4 people on the plane who shouldn’t be there, that is why the flight attendant was killed because before take off he found them in the restrooms.

Eric tries to contact Sam and Callen but they are in the cargo hold. Salazar sees someone and gets shot immediately. Sam attends to Salazar while Callen attempts to hold off the gunmen. Sam and Callen manage to bring Salazar back up and Cheryl brings Callen to the second Air Marshall Vanessa Barley (Nicole Pettis).

Kensi and Deeks arrive at the second suspect, Aric Webber’s (Bogdan Yasinski) home. He was part of German Special Forces, but is a freelancer now. They go looking for his jeep.

The captain calls and Callen tells him there are 4 shooters in the cargo hold; Callen is told by Barley to bring Salazar up to the crew’s sleeping quarters where there is a full trauma kit. Barley promises no one is going to come through the floorboards and into the cockpit.

Deeks runs into Weber, who tells him to leave because he is busy. Deeks pulls out his gun and orders him to put down the gas containers. Weber grabs his girlfriend, Tina (Caitlin McHugh) but Kensi shoots him twice. They find evidence that he was definitely there to kill Rhodes and everyone in the stealth unit. Eric says if Weber was a hitman, they need to find out who hired him.

Eric reveals to Nell the reason the shooters haven’t killed Tinker yet is because they believe there is a fail safe in the plans. Rhodes and the team did it for situations exactly like this.

Nell says they can’t just walk off the plane with the plans on a laptop, but Eric says they could use the wifi to transmit the files. They agree the plane’s wifi needs to be shut off, which cuts all communication with Sam and Callen. Before they can talk any further, men burst in the room. One of them is shot and the other, Sam kills.

As Sam is handcuffing the one man to a seat, and reassures Cheryl everything will be fine, another man comes out with a gun to Tinker’s head. Sam puts his gun down and tells Cheryl to open up a line to the captain. He orders one of the passengers to zip tie Sam’s hands when he yells for a “hard right” to the Captain.

Callen jumps down from the crew’s quarters, they manage to get 3, when Big Ron reveals the man sitting beside him who is transmitting. Sam tells him to get his hands off the keyboard and knocks him out with the laptop. The passengers clap.

Deeks and Kensi return asking if Sam and Callen have landed yet. Based on their intel, they were able to arrest 5 Chinese nationals in Tokyo; they financed the takeover, but he cannot confirm if there are more coming. Hetty praises them all and tells them to go out and have a life.

On the plane, Air Marshall Miguel Salazar is lifted off the plane. They shake hands with Barley but Cheryl is upset that she doesn’t know how to move on, thinking of a million things that could have gone wrong. Sam tells her she was at her best in the worst situation.

The Captain thanks them for saving his passengers and not damaging his plane too badly. Sam and Callen run into Hetty at the office, where she has drinks ready for them; instead of the beers they were planning on. She talks about the last year was horrible for their team, but today what they did on the plane and what the rest did on the ground; this is their purpose and they did it well. She says these are the good days and they will write the pages of this year’s book together and she wants them to make it one hell of a story. AND TO HELL WITH LAST YEAR!

END!
