The Reason Why Diane Keaton Never Got Married

Diane Keaton has an extraordinary life and career, and a long list of famous ex-boyfriends. Or, it at least looks that way. She made an appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live! on Monday night. Last week, she attended the AFI tribute where she received the AFI Lifetime Achievement Award. They talked about famous friends, but Diane Keaton says she doesn’t have any friends, reports Jezebel.

Jimmy Kimmel rattled off a list of celebrities who attended her tribute. Martin Short, Steve Martin, and Sarah Silverman, Reese Weatherspoon, and Meryl Streep were just some of the ones who were there. But, Diane Keaton admitted she’s not friends with any of them. Keaton said that most of those actors were her colleagues rather than her true friends. She also said she wished more men than women came to the AFI tribute.

That led Diane Keaton to speak out about her dating life – or lack thereof. She explained to Jimmy Kimmel why she’s never gotten married. She declared that “no one asked me to marry them.” She’s not sure why and we aren’t either. Diane Keaton seems like a great catch. She’s smart, funny, and attractive. Even Kimmel joked that if he was single, he would have asked her to marry him.

The Reason Why Diane Keaton Never Got Married

Keaton has never been married. Back in 2014, she said she never got married because she “wanted the dream.” She didn’t like the idea of having any man she wanted. Instead, Keaton wanted to focus on her Hollywood career. She spent most of her 20s and 30s dating men instead of being “tied down” to one man. Keaton literally wears the pants. It’s likely that she has an ambivalent feeling about marriage in general.

But, she does have a celebrity crush. Before receiving her AFI Lifetime Achievement Award, Keaton told The Hollywood Reporter that she had a “crush” on her onscreen co-star Mel Gibson. She still crushes on him to this day. So much so that she would love to relieve her onscreen kiss with him. Keaton and Gibson starred in the 1984 movie Mrs. Soffel.

She explained to The Hollywood Reporter what it was like to kiss the Australian hunk then. Keaton said that she “was pushing 40” while Gibson “was in his 20s.” Keaton said that Gibson was “easy to work with” at the time long before his legal troubles. She also went on to call him “gorgeous” and wishes that she could kiss him again.
