The Young and the Restless Spoilers: Adam Newman Returning - Nick Tagged As Lead Detective In Brother's Death

The Young and the Restless spoilers tease that the potential of Adam Newman (most recently played by Justin Hartley) returning to Genoa City has been given new life by Y&R’s head writer. Nick (Joshua Morrow) has been tagged as the character who has become suddenly suspicious of Chloe’s (Elizabeth Hendrickson) behavior. This specific choice can easily bleed into the still-unresolved Christian (Jude and Ozzy McGuigen) paternity issue.

Co-executive producer and head writer Sally Sussman stated upon her return to Y&R that, “unless there is a compelling reason to have Nick learn the truth, I see no reason to go there.” Yes, it would be easy for all viewers and readers to stop right there, as Sussman’s words are clear. However, there’s always a but in soapland, right? But Sussman specifically referenced, “a compelling reason”. So let’s follow that path, which is only one of many that can be offered by other sharp soap fans.

Nick, Chelsea (Melissa Claire Egan) and Connor (Gunner and Ryder Gadbois) were driving to the infamous cabin in the woods to pick up Adam last September. Nick’s brother, who is also Christian’s biological dad (though Nick didn’t and still doesn’t know that fact) was waiting to escape with his wife and first-born son. Just after the trio arrived, Chelsea got out of the car and was approaching the cabin when she was violently lifted off her feet and thrown backwards due to the blast caused by the exploding cabin.

Nick recently had a conversation with Scott (Daniel Hall) about Chloe’s seeming recovery. While inebriated at The Underground, she told Scott that her life got back on track six months ago. March minus six months equal September, 2016, which is when Adam died.

Scott’s interest was peaked by Chloe’s story, but for the moment he appears to be serving as the plot vehicle which fed that information to Nick. Nick had a subsequent conversation with his mother, who also is now questioning whether the cabin explosion was an accident. Okay, but what does this recap have to do with Christian’s paternity?

Nick and Chelsea are now together, which doesn’t seem solely like a romantic pairing. Instead, Chick’s existence increases the odds that they’ll expose Chloe’s crime together. At that exact moment would Chelsea continue to withhold the secret that she and her then-husband promised to keep, that Christian was Adam’s child?

Of course there are holes in this theory. But centering Nick within this arc just after he and Chelsea agreed to become a couple can’t possibly be a coincidence, unless Sussman is merely teasing the audience. If she’s not, Adam, played by whoever, could return within the next few months. CDL is a leading source for everything linked to The Young and the Restless.
