The Young and the Restless (Y&R) spoilers documented Lily’s (Christel Khalil) recent return to the modeling world. Fortunately for her, Jordan (Darnell Kirkwood) arrived at the Genoa City Athletic Club suite where a stalker invaded her personal space. While nothing violent took place, the scene highlighted an important issue that relates to how fans and stars are interacting in the modern world.
Creating work that’s seen by the public has its risks. Ask anyone who’s done it and answers will vary about uncomfortable circumstances that have arisen. That issue was discussed by Lily and Jordan after the referenced incident occurred. The bridal show that included Brassy and Sassy products also featured Lily and her legs. While her outfit was hardly indiscreet, its intent was to project an alluring woman who a consumer could attract if he used certain men’s products.
The Internet and one of it’s wayward children, social media, do more than create the perception of connectivity. They enable so-called fans to actually have the ability to send electronic messages to various personalities and possibly, receive replies from them. That access allows misguided minds to be convinced that some type of relationship has formed with whoever when it hasn’t.
The fashion industry in particular and for the most part sells sex appeal. The willing workers in this trade assuredly share Lily’s desire to be in the game. She, like many models, know that their looks attract interest from a majority of people. In effect they use their physical gifts to make money. That’s not wrong, but can be questioned if a public persona crosses the line of common sense.
Lily’s been successful in the past and is again now because she’s a physically attractive person. That element combines with her ability to work with colleagues, which again includes Jordan. And surely Vickie (Amelia Heinle) didn’t have Lily work the bridal show because of her past efforts in offering unsolicited advice to Devon’s (Bryton James) bride Hilary (Mishael Morgan).
No matter how pleasant she was in the workplace, Lily would have zero modeling jobs if she was considered to be ugly. By appearing half-naked in advertisements she will provoke various libidos, some of which are connected to unbalanced minds.
But Lily hasn’t engaged in social media sharing, by intentionally posting provocative pictures of herself online. Her last name is Ashby, not Kardashian. No, Lily was purely working at a job and was in a restricted area of a hotel she used to manage when a creep willfully made contact with her in a setting he believed would be private. As fans will come to see, this criminal then pushes his obsession to another level by going to Lily’s home.
