Fans of The Young and the Restless know that their favorite soap will be preempted today, Monday, August 21, the date of the solar eclipse. Of course, a total eclipse won’t be visible in Genoa City, Wisconsin. But which Y&R characters are likely to be darkened when the moon moves between the sun and the earth?
Snarky science groupies and headline readers might be quick to say that the eclipse will only be partially visible and has noting to do with The Young and the Restless. This feature is obviously written in consideration of the lack of a traditional Monday Y&R episode. So let’s remain light-hearted, put on our special glasses, stare toward the heavens and consider which fictional personalities will darken as a result of this event.
Cane (Daniel Goddard) is primed to delve deeper into personal madness. Currently unwilling to believe that his family is gone, the ongoing realization of that fact will push him overboard.
Redemption will eventually happen, mostly as a result of his and Juliet’s (Laur Allen) baby’s birth this Fall. But the last quarter of 2017 will prove to be a stark time for Goddard’s character. He’s losing the love of his life to Jordan, is alienated from ‘Lane’s’ twins and remains unable to regain a proper career footing.
Nick (Joshua Morrow) falsely believes that he can trust Chelsea (Melissa Claire Egan). That’s why he’s just committed to living under one roof with her and both of their children. However, the inevitable Christian (Jude and Ozzy McGuigen) reveal will destroy him. Not that he doesn’t deserve this given his criminal dishonesty in covering up Chloe’s alleged murder of Adam Newman, albeit well after the fact.
Morrow’s character will come to see Chelsea as no better than Victor (Eric Braeden), who also knows that Christian is Adam’s (Justin Hartley) son. Already kicked off the ranch, Nick will lose the boy who he thought was his son once again. That means ‘Chick’s’ living on borrowed time. The resulting personal devastation and the ‘Black Knight’s’ slew-footing of The Underground’s expansion efforts will deeply darken Nick’s demeanor.
Abby (Melissa Ordway) thinks she’s her dad’s favorite. Yet the local prostitution ring that she’s unwittingly funding will wreck her business reputation, put Abby in jeopardy of being kicked out of Newman and end a seemingly burgeoning romantic relationship.
Zack (Ryan Ashton) is linked to the operation that’s moved into GC. His dating app is a front for the criminal organization that Tessa (Cait Fairbanks) appears to have broken away from in the recent past and that her sister, Crystal (Morgan Obenreder), is currently controlled by. Victor’s resulting wrath will crush Abby’s spirit and cause her to battle with the head of Newman Enterprises, just as her other siblings have been forced to do.
