There’s a possibility that Kate Middleton might never become Queen. That’s because reports on the royals indicate that Prince Charles will hold on to his title as King of England for as long as he possibly can – once he finally ascends the throne. Kate Middleton will have to wait her turn in line, which for her can easily feel like an eternity, especially facing a difficult marriage to Prince William.
Currently, there’s a lot of debate on whether or not Camilla Parker-Bowles will be named the Queen Consort when Queen Elizabeth dies. Yet some royal scholars believe that when Prince Charles becomes King, Camilla will be known as Queen as there’s no alternative title for her.
Many royal insiders believe that Prince Charles will hold on to his title as the King of England for as long as he can. After all, he’s been waiting his entire life for this. There’s no way he will skip over the opportunity by making his son Prince William to be King.
According to Vanity Fair, author Sally Bedell Smith of the new unauthorized biography, ‘Prince Charles: The Passions and Paradoxes of an Improbable Life,’ says it will be several long decades until William gets to wear the King’s crown on his head. She explained, “Charles will be King and Camilla will be Queen. They will not skip over to William, who is being groomed to become King probably in his late 40s or early 50s.”
In other words, it might be another 20 or even 30 years before Kate Middleton becomes Queen. That means she has to deal with years and years of royal drama and politics behind the scenes. That also means that her marriage to Prince William will have to be rock solid if she expects it to survive that long and as many royal critics know, that won’t be easy.
William will simply have to wait as long as Charles did – or even longer – before he rules the monarchy. And for Kate Middleton, that might be both good and bad news. On one hand, she doesn’t have to worry about all of the stress and responsibility that comes with being the Queen Consort, but on the other hand that means she’ll always be known as the Duchess of Cambridge – and nothing more.
