The Young and the Restless spoilers tease a full-scale reversal. Longtime Y&R fans recall how many times Nick (Joshua Morrow) protected Sharon (Sharon Case) during their marriage and thereafter. Now, with Chelsea (Melissa Claire Egan) having broken his heart, Sharon will serve as his consoler.
Chelsea felt compelled to hit Sharon over the head because Case’s character was about to tell Nick that Christian (Jude and Ozzy McGuigen) was Adam’s (Justin Hartley) child. Phyllis (Gina Tognoni) has been pursuing theories about Chelsea, which enabled Sharon to obtain a document from the Genoa City Police Department’s database. That document appears to confirm that Christian was not biologically connected to Nick.
Phyllis was a lab technician a few decades ago. So the audience, along with various connected Genoa City residents, are being asked to believe that Nick has been wronged. With whatever proves true, Sharon was the victim of Chelsea’s attack. The fact that Sharon was trying to relay what she believes is vital information to Nick will make her all the more admirable in his eyes.
The Sully-is-Christian arc remains fresh in everyone’s mind. So it’s not that Nick will erase the terrible, extended choice Sharon made in the recent past from his mind. Instead, he’ll be exceedingly grateful for what she’s done now.
This third gut-punch is different then the first two, where Christian was falsely proclaimed to be dead and then was initially raised by Sharon as though he was actually Shyllan’s. In this instance, Chelsea is revealed as having known that Nick wasn’t Christian’s father. She did that while claiming to love and want to marry him.
Thankfully, Sharon’s head-knock didn’t prove serious. That outcome also allows her to be able to tell Nick the truth he needs to know. And even in this soapy world, truth isn’t personal.
No, there isn’t “your truth”, or “my truth”. Either claim represents a raging egotist’s self-centered view of the world presented as a philosophy. Chelsea embraced that false vision and has damaged lives as a result.
Sharon’s mental health issues drove her reckless behavior in days gone by, as Nick came to recognize and acknowledge. Chelsea is not suffering from any known malady. She simply used her own free will to withhold information (otherwise known as lying), thereby establishing Chick’s false foundation. That’s the difference between the two women who Nick once loved and the one who he may now love again.
