Days of Our Lives (DOOL) spoilers reveal that one NBC soap star offered a message to any haters out there. DOOL viewers know Camila Banus as Gabi DiMera (Camila Banus) in Salem. She’s been front and center in a major story, so it’s apparently bumped up the number of angry comments she receives.
Gabi is certainly a polarizing character on social media. Most people either love her or hate her – or love to hate her! No matter how you feel about Gabi, it’s perfectly fine to express your opinion about the fiction onscreen. However, some fans can’t seem to separate reel from real. Banus and other soap stars sometimes get attacked just for showing up and playing a part.
It’s one thing to rake Gabi over the coals for plotting revenge on Lani Price (Sal Stowers). Rigging Julie Williams’ (Susan Seaforth Hayes) heart with a booby trap is awfully extreme, so most of us can understand the outrage. Of course, it’s also great if you just appreciate the fun feud and want to see how it all plays out. Gabi’s putting the drama in daytime drama – and someone has to!
Regardless, it’s not right to bash actors for their characters’ behavior. Banus wanted to remind everyone that she gets to go to work and make believe for a living. She’s not really scheming to destroy anyone’s happiness or even responsible for the writing she brings to life. Criticism about Gabi’s actions shouldn’t be directed at Banus when she’s just doing what she was hired to do.
Banus tweeted, “Just a quick reminder: I WORK ON A TELEVISION SHOW. It’s all made up and we actually play pretend everyday. I do not write stories on my own or live as my character.” Most Days of Our Lives fans can grasp the concept, but others perhaps take these storylines a bit too seriously and let their emotions get the best of them. Those people will hopefully benefit from the reminder that Salem isn’t real!
Plenty of Days watchers piped up in support of Banus. One fan said, “The fact that you have to clarify this is sad and ridiculous! Just know that you’re loved by many and we are grateful your talent and poise is on the canvas.”
Another Days viewer insisted, “We love you, Camila! Please trust that most of us our able to stay in reality. You do an absolutely fabulous job at ‘playing pretend.’ So much so that it seems you might have some people confused.”
