General Hospital (GH) spoilers tease that Ava Jerome (Maura West) needs a change in her life. As GH viewers know, she’s been through a lot. Not only did she just mark the one-year anniversary of Kiki Jerome’s (Hayley Erin) murder, but she had to face the fact that she was in a relationship with Kiki’s killer, Ryan Chamberlain (Jon Lindstrom). That led her to hire psychics to try to “communicate” with Kiki, and ultimately led to her terrifying dream, during which Kiki berated her for her choices. It’s all been a bit much.
Well, all of this has led Ava to do a lot of coping, which in Ava’s world means a lot of drinking. She’s been downing a lot of martinis these days and trying to deal with her new reality, which is a life alone – no daughter, no boyfriend, and living apart from her daughter Avery Corinthos (Ava and Grace Scarola). She’s got members of the Corinthos family constantly needling her for her drinking and for not being there for Avery, and it’s a lot to take.
What Ava needs is an impetus to move on with her life. She needs to focus on things other than her sorrow for Avery and her stack of handwritten letters from Ryan, which she seems to obsess over. Fortunately, her brother Julian Jerome (William deVry) is sticking around Port Charles and will be able to lend his support as she tries to regroup, but there’s only so much he can do for her.
We can’t help but notice, though, that Ava’s been doing a lot of talking lately about Nikolas Cassadine (last played by Nick Stabile). And it’s not just Ava – Nikolas’ name has come up with Laura Collins (Genie Francis), too, as she’s been searching for the codicil to Mikkos Cassadine’s (John Colicos) will. There have been a lot of hints suggesting that Nikolas could be alive and be Hayden Barnes and Jasper “Jax” Jacks’ (Ingo Rademacher) silent partner who’s looking for the codicil.
And if Nikolas is indeed alive and is eventually headed back to Port Charles, then that’s something that could give Ava just what she needs to regroup and move on from Ryan and the hurtful feelings she has about her relationship with Kiki and her death. Ava and Nikolas were close at one point, and let’s face it, she could use a friend – a real friend who supports her and listens. Sure, she’s got Julian, but she needs more than just Julian in her life.
It would certainly be an interesting way for Ava to move on from Ryan, and of course Ryan would be absolutely livid and outraged that Ava’s spending time with another man. He’d probably want to kill Nikolas for having a close relationship with Ava, which would be some good drama in its own right.
We’ll see what ends up happening, and if Nikolas does return from being presumed dead, but it certainly would be an interesting arc for Ava if he did.
