Meghan Markle has been left hiding her head in shame once again because of her extended family members back in the U.S. This time around it’s her brother Thomas Markle Jr. who is making headlines. Reports indicate that the 52-year-old has entered a diversion program for his DUI charge. He was arrested in Oregon back in January for driving under the influence of alcohol.
According to TMZ, Meghan’s half-brother failed a field sobriety test and blew a .11. He was arrested on the scene. Luckily for Markle, the court is allowing him to enter a one-year diversion program, but there are some stipulations that come with it.
He must attend a victim impact panel later this month. He must also have an ignition interlock device installed on his vehicle and pay about $700 in legal fees. Thomas Markle Jr. is expected to be booked and fingerprinted by the end of March.
Of course, this isn’t the first time that Meghan Markle’s brother has had problems with the law. Back in January 2017 he was arrested for allegedly holding a gun to his girlfriend’s head. This was after they supposedly had a drunken fight inside their home in Oregon.
So far Meghan Markle herself has not made any comments about her brother’s arrest or her ongoing feud with her extended family back in the United States. While the Duchess hasn’t spoken to her brother in years, Thomas Markle Jr. took it upon himself to write an open letter to Prince Harry, urging him to not marry his sister. He gave the letter to media outlets to publish on his behalf.
Despite their ongoing issues, previous reports have indicated that there’s a chance the Duchess of Sussex might reach out to her estranged father, Thomas Markle Senior, once her baby is born. Even though her father has made endless attacks against her and the royal family to the press, he’s said that he would like to repair his relationship with his daughter. He also claimed that he has the right to be in his grandchild’s life.
