The Village begins tonight with Nick Porter (Warren Christie) looking outside at all the snow outside, while Patricia Davis (Lorraine Toussaint) brings up the Christmas decorations asking Sarah Campbell (Michaela Mcmanus) if she is dressed, as they are going to cheer this joint up. Patricia tells her that Sarah’s sadness is dripping through her ceiling, which means they are going to “deck the halls” and then she is going to make her gingerbread cookies for the Christmas party, which she has to attend.

Patricia reminds her that Katie (Grace Van Dien ) is not lost, just living with a street kid who is a charming character, Liam Kelly (Ben Ahlers). She wants to know how Sarah expects Katie for forgiving her when she won’t do the same for Nick? Patricia hugs a distraught Sarah, saying she misses Katie too.

Liam is making breakfast when Katie walks in, telling him that her mother called to remind her that she had an ultrasound today. He feels it has been a few weeks and maybe it is time she spoke to her mother; he reveals he is leaving as he has an opportunity to show his art in Berlin. She feels that is amazing, but also threatens to stab him with her fork when he makes fun of her eating for two.

Enzo Napolitano (Dominic Chianese) puts a porcelain Christmas tree on Gabe Napolitano’s (Daren Kagasoff) desk, but he wants to know how many times he is going to tell his grandfather to take it away. Gabe doesn’t like Christmas as Enzo wonders if Sofia Lopez (Aimee Carrero) would like it; but ends up calling Gabe a Scrooge when he says they won’t be finding out.

Meanwhile, Ron Davis (Frankie Faison) is putting up garland when he sees a message on Patricia’s phone, reminding her of chemo follow up appointment that day. He puts the phone back down when Patricia walks in asking him to explain the Wendy Parker record. He said it was a gift for her as Wendy is Olivia’s (Hailey Kilgore) friend from the gospel. Ron asks if she is jealous but she fends off, saying she is leaving for work, but will be home for the party. Ron tells her that he loves her before she leaves.

Ron and Enzo go to the tree lot to pick up a Christmas Tree, where Ron doesn’t want to get the one that Enzo loves because everyone has the same one. He pays only $1.40 for the tree but delivery is going to cost him $200; both Ron and Enzo say they have a guy to deliver it but end up lugging it home on a sled themselves.

Sarah goes to Smalls with decorations for the bar. She places the box on a stool as Nick comes out, saying it is easier to leave her alone but not when she shows up during his shift. She reminds him not to mess with Ron’s playlist, but he says he hates jazz. Nick knows it is a jazz bar, but the funny thing is when he changes the music it no longer is. She agrees with Nick to bring the decorations for the Veterans’ housing, but it also gave her a reason to come down to Smalls. Sarah says she was angry and drunk and had no right to ask him to leave but if he comes back she fears Katie won’t. She knows he is lying when he says he is fine and feels a little distance is good; with both of them doing that, it has done them good. He does want to talk to Katie at some point though. He brings up Christmas 2000, she remembers because she got a snow globe.

Patricia walks through the city, pausing outside Mercy Hospital as Ron and Enzo continue their trek through the city. Enzo jokes that the bells are ringing and wonders if they are dead. The two go inside a cafe, asking for some hot chocolate and leaving the tree outside. Enzo admits it is hard without Rosemary, but he promised her to make the best of things as Ron doesn’t know what he would do without Patricia. Enzo talks about Gwendolina and isn’t sure if he is going to bring her to the Christmas party but Ron says this falls under “making the best of things!”

Nick arrives at Liam’s place when Katie sees Nick there with a box of decorations. Liam said he let Nick in because he is a trained killer. Katie gives Nick one minute, he admits he doesn’t have an excuse, wishing he did. He racks his brain for an answer; Katie feels this is one decision and he chose not to come home. He mentions how she decided to give up the baby, but she tells him the truth is he didn’t decide to be her dad until he couldn’t be a soldier anymore and she isn’t a consolation prize. Nick isn’t asking for forgiveness, only to admit he failed her. She opens the door and leaves for work. When he looks at Liam, he quickly says he sleeps on the couch.

Ava Behzadi (Moran Atias) walks out a student when she spots her ex, Hamid (Pej Vahdat) across the street; he wants to talk about Sami (Ethan Maher). They cannot agree on whether she takes Sami with her if she is deported as there is no good answer. Hamid loves Sami and will do anything to stay in his life, just as he did to keep her in his.

Sarah finds Katie at work, who admits she got all of her texts; but they are interrupted when Claire Danville (Katrina Lenk) arrives to bring Katie to her appointment. Claire is sorry she jumped in the middle of Sarah and Katie trying to find common ground. Katie comes back, asking if anyone wants to go to the ultrasound.

Patricia is at Mercy, looking at a before and after of her tumor, it did shrink but very minimal. Patricia admits she’s had more pain, advised to go ahead with more chemo and a full hysterectomy. Patricia pauses, learning she needs to have the surgery before the holiday if they want her to have more holidays.

Nick sits at the pier, opening the box of decorations, even finding the snow globe Sarah was talking about, inside them is the twin towers as he envisions what happened on 9-11. Patricia wanders through the streets while Ben Jones (Jerod Haynes) walks with Sami, buying him a bag of hot nuts. Ben sees another man with his son, and happy to be walking away with Sami. Ron and Enzo thoroughly enjoy their talk at the cafe. Gabe opens his drawer and finds a sweater with Rudolph on it. Sarah is frustrated to see how close Katie is with Claire. Ava is busy baking when Ben’s wife arrives at her front door. Ava offers her some tea over their awkward exchange.

Nick walks to the firewall where he used to work during the tragedy of 9-11. He finds out the Chief is retired, hoping being there will jog his memory. He was there in 2001, someone goes to see if they can find his number. Nick sees the wall in honor of the FDNY’s fallen heroes, frowning as he spots someone’s photo, he takes off before anyone can help him reach the former Chief.

Sarah finishes the paperwork for Katie, but when she can’t see her daughter, a nurse informs her that Katie went back with her mom. Katie’s ultrasound is running smoothly as Claire tears up hearing the baby’s heartbeat, but Katie cries too. Sarah walks in, also looking at the sonogram; Katie looks at Claire but Sarah touches her leg, reassuring her. Katie looks stressed.

Claire thanks Sarah for including her today, saying it meant a lot to share these moments if they move forward; apologizing that Katie insisted they start without her. Claire informs Sarah that Liam is going to Berlin, Sarah worried about her being alone over the holidays, but Claire had invited her to stay. Sarah is angry, saying Katie has a home. Claire reveals Katie is having a boy but to not tell her as she didn’t want to know. Sarah wipes away her tears as Claire talks to Katie.

Ava learns a lot about Ben, including that he used to go to church until their son died. Ava shares the womb is where the light enters you. Ben returns, very jolly until he sees his wife with Ava, wanting to know why she is there. She thanks Ava for the tea and quickly leaves, Ben stops her in the hallway asking her to talk to him; but she knows he drove by because he wanted a divorce, losing a son… what is a little more? Dana hands him back the ring, just glad that he is happy now. Ben is crying but startled when he sees Ava standing in the doorway.

Patricia is enjoying a drink when a bar patron (Rashid Helper) was going to offer to buy her a drink but felt it would be a little cliché. She agrees to some wine, saying he has a kind smile and he moves to the stool directly next to her. He introduces himself as Andre and she says her name is Madelaine.

Sarah tells Katie she can’t do this to her because it hurts too much. Sarah closes the door, demanding Katie speak to her; saying she has nothing left to threaten her with and she has nothing left to lose. Katie feels suffocated and wants her to believe she is okay on her own, but Sarah reminds her that she has a virtual stranger taking care of her and the only reason Katie is strong is that Sarah gave her that. Katie confronts her about lying to her entire life, but Sarah says she made a mistake but she is a good mother; if what she wants is to cut her out, she’ll give her that too and leaves the room.

Gabe finds Enzo at the cafe, rushing in because Enzo texted him saying he fell. He says him and Ron need help dragging the tree; so the two elderly men walk in front of Gabe, spreading Christmas cheer to everyone while Gabe is stuck dragging the tree alone. Patricia and Andre discuss things about their lives; him asking Patricia to come with him to the country and see what happens. She says that is tempting as he says it is her call, leaving his hotel room number with her. Patricia orders a bottle of champagne, asking the bartender to send it up to the room as she is going home to her own party.

Ben admits to Ava that he went by Dana’s house the other day to ask her for a divorce but she was still wearing her wedding ring and couldn’t take something else from her. Ava questions whether living with false hope is just as bad; Ben reveals Dana gave back the ring and he will file the paperwork as Ava is trying to figure out where she stands because in two weeks she could be living thousands of miles away. She wants Ben to ask himself if he really is in love with them or just happy to have a family again.

Gabe is cutting part of the tree off as Enzo says he was right about the size. They give Gabe the bottom part of the tree as he says he is going to blow torch his hands with all the sap on it. Ron learns that Gabe’s parents split up on Christmas; Ron remembers that Enzo and Rosemary had to pick him up, he also remembers that Enzo and Rosemary had given their notice that day, found a little place in Florida; something they talked about for years, but they gave up on it because they knew Gabe would need them. It turns out the worst Christmas Gabe ever had was the one he got the best gift anyone could ask for.

Sarah gets to baking when there is a knock at her door. Nick says the guy he keeps seeing in his PTSD episodes isn’t a soldier but a fireman; Sarah lets him in. He wants to know if he said anything when she saw him back then. He didn’t talk for a long time and it wasn’t about what he had seen. He feels it is right in front of him but he can’t break through. She thinks he needs to process this piece before he gets to the next. He wonders what he is supposed to do in the meantime; Sarah says she needs a gingerbread partner. She jokes that it is a good thing he has learned to take orders and tells him to wash his hands.

Enzo kisses the photo of Rosemary, thanking her for this. The building is full of holiday cheer, Enzo with Gwendolina. Patricia says it is nice to see Sarah and Nick, saying she will take that as Nick says he is just passing through. Patricia takes one of the cookies, saying she feels better already; its clear she has been drinking.

Ron finds Patricia, who admits she has been out there for a while, apologizing for her last text was 2 hours earlier. She is surprised to learn that he knew about the doctor’s appointment, but he says he is trying to give her the space she needs. Patricia says there are some complications with her tumor so Ron asks if she wants to go someplace to talk, but she only wants to go to her party, as there is nowhere else she’d rather be. She splits her cookie with Ron, who both laugh.

Gwendolina begins to meet all the tenants of the building when Gabe walks in with his Rudolph sweater. Enzo says Florida was his grandmother’s idea, but Gabe knows they stayed for him. Enzo says that he kept them younger, which was a pretty good trade-off. Enzo reveals Rosemary’s favorite part of Christmas was the mistletoe and kisses Gabe on the cheek, saying he is a good boy.

The kids enjoy decorating the tree as Sarah doesn’t think Katie is coming home but Patricia says, “tonight I choose to hope.” Katie paints away in the apartment with Liam, but she is awfully sad as she begins to bake alone. Enzo and Gwendolina sing for everyone at the building as Ben watches Sami. Ava goes to see Hamid, asking to come in. Sarah stares at Nick with smiles on their faces, but the mood is pretty solemn between them.

A couple of children find the snow globe on a park bench, he shakes it staring at the snowfall around the twin towers.

THE END!
