The Young and the Restless spoilers document that Summer Newman’s (Hunter King) revived friendship with Kyle Abbott (Michael Mealor) spells trouble for Kola. While the newly married couple is on solid ground, stabilizing of tensions between the former Skyle pairing is noteworthy.
As Y&R fans see, Theo Vanderway (Tyler Johnson) is making inroads with Lola Abbott (Sasha Calle). She took pity on him after he fainted in the kitchen at Society after seeing Lola slightly cut her finger while chopping veggies.
Meanwhile, Summer just felt insulted by Theo when he tried to comfort her. Victor Newman’s (Eric Braeden) perceived death being was used as an opener in that regard. And with that and the other plot points noted above, drama ensues.
Theo Vanderway Comes Off As A Phoney – Is There More To Him?
Johnson is a good actor. But is the Theo character being written right? The question that’s asked is worth debating, as the quick recast that placed Johnson in this role indicated that he’s a cast keeper. But the choice to push Theo as a phoney makes it hard for him to develop, as it will take awhile and need to be fueled by stronger storylines for Johnson to work through.
It’s fair to create a triangle, or actually two sets of them. So, Summer and Kyle could reconnect. But will it be believable if Y&R eventually pairs Theo and Lola? Probably not. Theo could also be left out if Summer dumps him, or simply drifts away as well.
The slow burn that created Kola shouldn’t be upended for at least a year. Give the show’s most likeable current couple enough time for the fans to enjoy many light-hearted moments within their storyline. Having a baby, or even twins would be great as well.
Kyle Abbott Can’t Be Invested In Summer Newman’s Life
Kyle’s maturation process is what poked Theo’s ego. Johnson’s character would be wise to emulate his former friend, as personal growth would help Theo to find balance in Genoa City, Wisconsin, as opposed to New York’s reckless days.
It will be necessary for Kyle to not allow himself to become too invested in any part of Summer’s life during this time, as Skyle’s history is messy and could resurrect itself in an instant. Until he legitimately works to change himself, Theo will remain a threat to Summer. She needs positive influences in order to remain stable and as of the moment, Theo surely isn’t that.
Here’s hoping that Y&R provides Johnson with a deeper plot path to walk on so that his acting chops can be highlighted in a different manner.
