When the news broke in November 2019 that Justin Hartley had filed for divorce from Chrishell Stause, it took many people by surprise. Hartley and Stause had seemed perfectly happy in the months leading up to that shocker. Stause was blindsided in many ways and struggled in the aftermath, so she recently opened up about that traumatizing divorce and how it affected her.
In an interview with RealiTea with Derek Z, Stause talked about some of the difficulties she faced following her breakup from Hartley. The fact that everything was so public made matters even worse.
Stause, who stars on Selling Sunset, admitted that the timing was terrible. She was filming the Netflix series when word spread about Hartley and Stause’s split, so everything was caught on camera.
Stause suggested that an experience like that is hard enough when it’s not on full display, but this really added another layer of sorrow. “It’s an embarrassing, humiliating type of thing to go through without cameras and without people judging you, so I just hope people are gentle when they watch,” Stause said.
Stause urged everyone to remember that they’re real people. Although Stause and her costars may be in the public eye, they certainly face the same emotions that everybody else faces. Most of us know women who have gone through the pain of a divorce, so it’s no different for someone like Stause.
Since Stause’s reaction to the divorce updates is featured on Selling Sunset, she confessed it’ll be tough for her to see it. “This was a traumatizing time in my life and it’s going to be hard for me to watch it myself,” Stause said.
Stause is a former soap star who played Jordan Ridgeway on Days Our Lives as well as Bethany Bryant on The Young and the Restless. Hartley currently plays Kevin Pearson on This Is Us, but he’s also a Young and the Restless alum. Y&R fans will recall that Hartley played the role of Adam Newman before departing to focus on film and primetime gigs.
Back in May, Hartley was photographed locking lips with Sofia Pernas – another Y&R alum. Stause doesn’t have a new man in her life yet, but she admitted she’s open to dating again.
